243 loads for coyotes
« on: August 21, 2003, 02:11:30 PM »
Does anybody have any loads that are not real bad on pelts. Just bought a 243. Live in OK panhandle, where long shots are quite regular.

A load that is really accurate in my rifle and isn't too hard on coyotes is 40 grains of H414 with an 85gr Speer bt.  Friggen awesome accuracy for me and it hasn't been hard on them yet.  Regards,

Matt

I use a near max load of IMR 3031 with a sierra 85 grn hpbt.  The ave shot is +100 yds no exit. We really don't care about the fur, leave for the farm boys to decide. Very accurate in my rifle.

75 grain V-max over a mild load of IMR3031.  Don't know about long range potential though, I never shot one over about 100 yards away.  It exits, but the wounds are small and easily repaired unless you hit bone like the shoulder.
