Sorry if it's been brought up, but I was surfing MidwayUsa and saw they now have this ammo in stock.

I was in Minot,ND last monday and they had 3 Remington's chambered in 5mm. That's the first ones I've ever seen, even at gun shows.

I have a friend that bought a 5mm back in the late 60s, about
the same time i bought a marlin levermatic 57 22mag. I used to tease him
about the fact that i could still buy 22mag ammo, guess he will be happy to
see the 5mm come back. I think the 5mm was just a little hotter than the 22mag. ::) :o ;D

My senior year in highschool 1969,I also purchased a Rem Mod.591 5MM Mag. What a great little gun. And It broke my heart whem Remington stoped producing 5MM ammo. For many years my little Remmy was nothing more than a safe queen, Then about 2 months ago I was at my favorite gun shop, low and behold, there on the ammo shelf was Centurion 5MM Mag ammo,@ $22.00 a box of 50. I bought 2 boxes, drove home ,pulled that little 591 out of the safe, cleaned it up,and headed for the range, What a big let down, accuracy was gone,5" groups @ 50 yards. The new ammo is junk, How so you ask ? I still have 2 1/2 boxes of the old Remington 5MM ammo. I took some of my old Remmy fodder to the range the following day and fired 5 rounds @ 50 yards, and viola 3/4" groups at 50 yards. I'll wait and see ,maybe Big Green may start making 5MMs again,or possibly Winchester,Hornady,Federal ,I certainly hope so ,I really enjoy shooting Groundhogs with the 591.

Your right about the new 5mm ammo it is crap! I shot some of it in a 592 and I could spit watermelon seeds in a tighter group than that new ammo. And you can forget about any U.S. ammo manufacture ever loading 5mm ammo again especialy Remington sorry :'(

I have two 591's that shoot sub MOA at 100 yds with original ammo. I also have around 950 rounds of new ammo which is collecting dust 'cause it doesn't work well. I may pull a bullet and replace it with a heavier one to see if it helps. It was well hyped but fails to produce in my opinion.

The first lots of 5mm ammo does have problems, but i'm told the later ammo has addressed those problems and is good ammo...

mag-check you've already been given a ten day ban from this site once due to your BS postings about this thread. If I have to do it again it will not be for just ten days next time. A word to the wise take your bs elsewhere.

this extinct cartridge anyway!

I have an offset barrel H&R 5mm RF Mag barrel partly done, I think it is going to be a really nice barrel, it is not easy to do, but  I am on the way, I will report when I shoot it.  Larry

Yes, it shoots and works fine.  I am off on other projects, (A .14 HMR) but you can read about the 5mm Handi on the H&R thread under the PD shoot.  Larry

Regarding the stuck cases in the 5mm, I have found that a very tiny bit of resizing wax on the cases will stop that quite handily.

I don't know if the cases stick because of the relatively high pressures of the 5mm or because of dirty/rough chambers, but the tiny bit of lube stops the sticking cases pronto.

Remington had a problem with case extraction from this high-pressure and high-performance rimfire from the very beginning. As a result, it had to develop a unique extraction mechanism for the 591/592 series. Even so, the 5mm may need a little help in some guns, as I have noted above.

I own both a 591 and 592 in the 5mm. It is a wonderful little cartridge out to about 150 yards or so.

For what it's worth...
Once again...
A European firearms club has made reference to an article written in a firearms magazine.

The magazine has stated that CZ is still in the process of developing a 5mm magnum rifle.
No production date was mentioned but supposedly the time frame is months verses years.

The CZ model was stated to be the 452.

como say,  como saw.....
