Knight 45-70 anyone????
« on: January 05, 2009, 10:20:21 AM »
I would like to hear from anyone with Knight 45-70 hands on experience.  I have looked just about everywhere on the internet and can't find any reviews, etc.
I really like the looks of the  stainless/laminated stock model but need more information.  Thanks!!!

Each one of us will have our opinion and we need to respect each others opinion having said that when I saw the ad for the Knight KP 1 with the stainless barrel and laminated stock I thought that was a gun that I really wanted and began to look for one but could not find any dealers that had one in stock. After about 6 months of searching I was in  Cabala's in Texas and they had a KP1 but only with a composit stock and blue barrel and after looking it over I was very disappointed in the quality and workmanship. Now the stainless and laminated stock may be a better built gun and I have never seen one so cannot say that it is but it would have to be a great improvement over the one that I had my hands on to get me to change my mind and buy one. The writer in the Gun Digest gave it good reviews on operation changing barrels and the likes but not on the shooting.  I will say it sure looked good in the pictures.

Here's everything I know about them. I own a stainless with camo synthetic stock in 45-70. My boss, coworker and myself got them at the same time. Boss and I both have had problems getting the guns to unbreach after letting the hammer down without firing the gun. Coworker has had the forearm come of while carrying. All 3 rifles have been very accurate shooting the leverevolution ammo. I have taken 3 deer with mine so far. I have heard Knight is taking care of the problems. I'll know more when I send mine in after deer season. Other than that all I can say is that they are a ball to shoot.

I had an early KP1, my serial number was double digit, and it gave me fits. When it went bang, it did it well but it did not always go bang. Knight was always speedy and helpful when I had problems but I quickly got fed up. I live in Louisiana and we can use the 45-70 for primitive arms season and I had to pull out the handi twice to hunt. I realized that I never should have put the handi down and actually bought a couple more when Knight refunded my money. My advice would be to either wait until the new trigger group is released or go with a Handi. The reality is that my standard handi 45-70 out shoot the knight anyway. I now have a ultra 45-70 and a standard 444 as well but I have not shot either yet. Hopefully they will shoot as good as my origional handi.

Took 4 slickheads but haven't seen any bucks at all. Killed 3 of them with the knight.

Good on you, the does taste better any way. I have had a fair to good season, and the freezer is full. I have w=switched back to a Handi in 45-70 and I still have a couple of weeks left both here and in Mississippi but I think that I am probably done.

Daddy hasn't gotten to hunt due to eye surgery. They said he could now so I'll go with him and bow hunt maybe get a buck but mainly just so he has company at the camp. We have more fun hanging out together after the hunt. And I got 23 years to catch up for
