Think the Puma's will go on clearance???
« on: January 05, 2009, 12:28:54 PM »
With the gun going to be made in Italy in 2009, when do the South American Rossi's go on clearance and for how much???

Even if Rossi imports under a new name, the legacy sports rifles should be marked down b/c they need to get rid of them, right?  ???

Why? They are perfectly good rifles and I see no reason they should need to mark them down. I've not read whatever you have. I can't imagine Rossi moving production to Italy so assume Uberti is gonna start competing with them. I'd not bet on them doing so very well as the quality isn't likely to be any better but prices will be far higher.

Rossi isn't going anywhere, at least not that I've heard. That would be a seperate story.

But Rossi will no longer be making the Legacy Sports Puma rifle. Legacy Sports has a new contract with Chiappa Firearms who are building a much nicer model 92 (and priced a little higher but apparently not outragous some other lever clones). My gunsmithing friend says the rifle will is much better in quality and looks as well as no additional safety on it.

So while the Rossi is a good rifle (I totally agree), big box retailers like Bass Pro, Cabelas, etc are probably going to mark them down because they have hundreds in stock. This may not happen for a year, but I think it will happen when they start running low and headquarters says "get rid of them".

While they are $500 now, you might find one for $350-400 sometime this year.
If someone is thinking about getting one (myself included), might be best to wait and see what happens. Youcan always buy one online if the hunch is wrong.

This is all new to me.  I have a puma 44 mag, and I won't hesitate to buy another if I come across a good deal.  I hope they clearance those rifles out.  I don't mind the safety on top and I definitely have been enjoying the deer jerky, deer steaks, deer sausage and everything else it put on my table so far.  I'd definitely like to get the long barreled version if I come across one.

The big box stores may put them on clearance.  Remember a few years back when winchester moved the safety to the tang on the model 94?  I picked up 2 of them for 175 a piece.  At the time they were selling for $275 brand new.  I sold one to a friend for the price I paid for it.  It is one of my favorite rifles.

Around these parts, you can't even touch a new puma for under $450 - $500.  I'd love to see them go on clearance.  Every hunter in my family has helf my puma and looked at the antlers on the wall and had some of the jerky.  They all love the way the puma feels, they are great rifles.
