What did I buy????

This sounds kind of dumb ( maybe it IS ), but a short time ago I bought a second-hand Remington, and I'm trying to find out what model it is. A .300 RUM with 26" barrel, originally had open sights. BDL stock ( hinged floor-plate, black forend tip, etc). Here is the thing that confuses me; the action is liberally engraved with a scrowl pattern ( probably lazer etched ), as is the floorplate, with a Ram head. Markings on the reciever only say "700". It does not have the locking system in the bolt shroud. I was told it is a CDL...just seeking confirmation. The stock is a bit bulky for my tastes, I much prefer the slimmer ones of the  Mountain Rifle ( I think that is what they were called, obviously I'm not much of a Remington guy ( YET!!).

For future reference the stock of the CDL has the same contours as those on the Mountain rifles but the barrel is a heavier contour and 2" longer.

GatCat,

Does your rifle have the Monte Carlo cheek piece that is standard with the BDL? I think what you have there is a BDL with the optional embellished (not sure if you can still get it) receiver and floor plate. My son has one just like it (.300 RUM too), except for the Ram Head. I'm not sure about the Ram Head. I'll have to give him a call or go see him about the Ram Head, but I know that the floor plate is indeed embellished.

Edit: I called the boy and confirmed that his embellished BDL does indeed have the Ram's Head on the floor plate.

Skunk, I think you win the cupie doll!! Yes, it has the BDL stock with m/c stock, high-gloss finish. Sounds like a twin to the one your son has.
BTW, I gave the rifle to MY son. He returned from a tour in Iraq a year ago, has been shooting his 6.5X55, but wanted something with some more punch. He was hit by IED's 3 times, and has some lingering problems with his noggin...I figure he can shoot the Level I loads with the mild recoil and blast..in Feb. he goes back for another tour, hopefully with less problems then his first, then when he returns he can have the option of going to Level II and full-house loads, if desired.
As an aside, I think I'll check the on-line auctions, try to find a CDL stock off a Magnum. To me, it's a much nicer ( traditional ) stock, with the straight comb, slimmer forearm, and oil finish.

Well thank you Sir, I really like those little cupie dolls. ;) Please give my thanks to your son for his service and devotion to our country. Folks like him are the true American heroes. I've got a suggestion for that CDL stock. These (see following link) look like a great option for a fellow looking for a long action, magnum, CDL stock. Seems like an excellent price too.

Also, it looks like you win another cupie doll for the link on that stock; look goods, and price seems good also.
Don't push your luck, though....two cupies are enough for anyone!!
