T/C Gorilla Mount Question
« on: January 06, 2009, 04:28:23 AM »
Does this look right?  Is the mount correctly installed?  I'd like to have the scope further forward but this is pretty much all I can get.  The eye relief seems about right for the scope, but the scope seems too far back.

That is the same way that I have mine mounted as you say scope is a little far back. I dont remember if you can reverse the base mounts or not but if you can you could try that but as best I can remember that is the only way I could get them to line up on the TC. That is one of the problems you run into with a universal mount system but I like it and works ok for me.

That sure looks like a bloody eye brow to me.  I do not like short eye relief on my muzzleloader(or any other rifle with any amount of power) at all.  I'd have to change mount or scope, or both.

That scope appears to be mounted waaaay to far back. Looks dangerous to me.

It probably is, but there is no way to fix it.  I'll have to get a new base & rings or a much shorter scop.

My scope has never hit me but it did my son but not bad. I dont like it that far back either but have lived with it. In going over this again and looking at your pictures my scope does not sit as far back as yours. my scope is a 3x9 x40 bushnell and it stops just in the middle of the curve in the stock where as yours stops back of the curve, look at your posted picture and you will see what I mean. with the eye piece screwed all the way in I have 3 inches clearance and that is also what most all my rifles also have but all my scopes are the same 3x9 Bushnell. Also my muzzleloader is the same as yours. From the back of the back ring to the end of my eye piece is 5 inches so you might check that on yours. Hope this is of some help.

I was able to move it about 1" further forward using a BassPro Redhead base and weaver rings.  I could get about 1/4" more if I removed the rear sight, but I'd rather not do that.  I've never been cut by a rifle scope, but I know folks that have.  A friend is sending me another set-up to try as well.
