What is everyone's favorite choke tube for steel shot. I was thinking of buying a ext patternmaster for my benelli sbeII. Just hate to shell out a hundred buck for a choke tube.

I am kind of boring as all I shoot is Modified with steel. The only time I change my choke is to a Full for turkey.

I have seen nothing but good luck with the factory Mod.

The factory modified on my BPS. I put it in years ago and never touch it. I believe that choke tubes and camo are concepts driven entirely by marketing.

I use a factory modify on my Remington 870 SP. I carry the full choke, but never put it on. The modified does all I need.

I shoot an Improved Cylinder for ducks over decoys.

Use a Modified for longer range pass shooting.

I have been using my inproved cylinder nearly all season. I have had good success as long as I do my part.

Modified on both Beretta and Mossberg for huland and ducks.

All i use in my 870 is a Patternmaster. I love it.It shoots Winchester Dryloks #2 and #3 the best. My brother has a SBE2 and a Patternmaster and it is deadly.We patterned it and had GOOD patterns out to 75 yards.After that it was real "open". I have had confirmed kills with 3" 12 ga out to 60 yards.I mean dead birds not crips. With the SBE I have made some kills waaaaayyyy out there. I'm not condoning long shots but just saying that it can be done .

GB - Is the pattern master extended? If so is it shiney?

if you read the spec's most speical tubes are lm , im or x-full . a briley extended tube is around $ 40.00 and will do what ever you want . take a ported tube the load passes thru. to fast to be affected , but they look cool . a wad catcher tube a piece of plastic going over 1200 fps full of shot is going to be affected by a couple nubs in a positive way ?

yes the one in my brothers SBE2 is the extended and while it is shiny it does not hurt you at all.

When their laying-up and your having trouble gettin them coming in...modified...otherwise IC.

I used patternmasters for years, started with the original PM before they came out with other models, back when i had my 1187 supermag. Before this year it was an extended long range patternmaster in my SBE. I now use a Terror 655 in this SBE, the president of surecycle told me to shoot 3 shot and smaller, so I used Fed premium 4 shot and heavy high velocity 3 shot all season for ducks and geese, along with some snows this spring.

Tight is right, for me, whether I'm shooting the birds at 5 feet or a third shot at 40 yards, I absolutely love tight patterns. I shoot very well with this combo which is what matters, and it is a crushing duck combo, worked well on snows, however not being able to use bigger shot brings 35+ yard canada shots into "questionable" territory. So, I am looking into the 675 Terror, which I believe is still tighter than most x full waterfowl chokes you'll find out there, while still allowing me to shoot some BBB if I feel the need.

Most people associate guys who use tight chokes with someone who shoots birds at long distances, that doesn't have to be the case, it isn't for me, I'm a caller, I pride myself on finishing birds, toes touching ground, five feet away from me, and a day of finishing birds at 30 yards isn't a success for me, I just shoot well and enjoy less cripples with a good tight pattern.
I also shot trap in my college's club with this 655 and shot better than I ever had before.

If you check the spec. on most after market tubes for waterfowl the geese tube is IM and the duck is LM in alot of cases . When one considers that at 1200 FPS a a 3/4 inch section of holes in a tube will have little if any effect. And I havent seen where the wad strippe studs do much either. So a 30 dollar Briley tube vs a 80-100 dollar tube is a no brainer for me as both will give good patterns . In my Winchester Super X-2 the LM tube with #2 heavi-shot is death to giant Canada geese to 60 + yards , Some were farther .

I use a carlson extended in modified or light modified. A note of advice, there is such a thing as too tight a choke. Generally the tighter the choke the smaller the shot you'll want to use. There is a point of no return in choking a shotgun. At that point of over compression the shot starts doing weird things that are actually counter productive.

Mark Banser modified for eary to mid season. I switch to patternmaster in the late season. I can reach out and touch them with my 10 gauge. And no I don't skybust, but with the 10 and patternmaster, I can consistantly take geese 55 to 60 yds. Great fo days when the just won't finish.
