P89 Stainless Review

I purchased one of these in the haste to get what we can before doomsday on January 20th, and I couldn't be happier.  I had an old blued model that I sold to my father in law because I needed a little money, but I remember how smooth the pistol was, and how it NEVER failed to operate from day one to the several thousandth round fired before I sold it.

I, like most, think that the pistol isn't on the most beautiful list, but its looks are growing on me, thus, my new P89 Stainless in in the gun safe.  Handling it reminds me of what super reliable weapons these are, and the fact that one can drive tent stakes, then rip 15 round downrange like nothing happened is a plus.

I can hardly wait to fire the stainless.  Here's the preview.

1.  OK Trigger (creeps a little, but DA is better than expected)
2.  Fit and finish are functional.
3.  This weapon is WAY overbuilt.  Every wear surface is built for durability.
4.  Barrel looks good, crisp, and clean

Yes, I know its bad form to reply to your own post.  However, I had additional comments about the P89 trigger, which really isn't very good.  The single action creep has not gotten better with use.  In fact, it's probably a little worse.

What it does is creep about halfway across the seer, then hang.  With a little extra squeeze, it breaks.  Hardly better than a Daisy Rough Rider.  Apparently this is rather common with the P89, and other Ruger auto triggers.

So, I figured that, with a proper stoning jig, I could work it out with some good stones.

Good luck!!!  This thing is a beast to disassemble.  I haven't, and probably won't try to do it.  I'll probably take it to my local gunsmith and give him $100 so that he can cuss and spit instead of me.  That still keeps the weapon at <$500, but not as good of a deal as I had hoped.  I really thought that the trigger would smooth out after several hundred cycles.

Oh well, I still like it for its foolproof reliability.  It is a monster.
