Barrel Accessory Program Question??
« on: January 06, 2009, 04:49:03 PM »
I've got an Ultra Rifle with a .243 bull barrel. Getting ready to order a .223 bull barrel and a .45-70 barrel (if it will work on the Ultra).

Here are my questions..
What is the twist on the .223 bull barrel?
Will the .45-70 22" barrel listed for the Handi-Rifle work on the Ultra, and would I need to order a new forearm?

I could order the .450 Marlin simple enough, but I prefer the versitility of the .45-70.

Thanks!

Yes on everything but the forend, they're all the same. That includes the 45-70 being the better choice too, good move!! Twist rates are listed in the FAQs and Help sticky, current production .223 is 1:9".

Can you mount a .22-250 barrel and or 22 hornet barrel to a SB2-843 (.243 Ultra varmint)?  If so, would you need dedicated forearms for each of them?

Sure, you can have it factory fitted thru the accessory barrel program, or fit a second hand barrel yourself if you're the DIY type, spend some time in the FAQs and Help sticky, the answers to questions you don't even know you have yet will be found there.  ;)

I hate to be a "can I do this?, can I do that?" and divert the main subject but I guess I'll ask a "can I do?".  I recently purchased a CR-45LC and I was wondering if barrels can be fitted to this frame as simply as any other SB2 frame.  I'd like to get a 30-30 barrel for it.  If I could find one that doesn't get snatched up quickly, I'd buy it but for some reason, I think it might be quicker to just send the thing in and have a new one fitted (if the factory fits one to this frame).  The real question I'm asking however, is how much work is entailed with fitting a second barrel to a frame?  Is it something an "average Joe" could do?

Barrel fitting is covered in the FAQs, it may fit fine with no changes, minor changes or need major work, the 45LC frame is the same frame as comes on any other SB2 rifle.

I also am considering getting a 45-70 barrel and a 30-30 barrel.  I have a ultra and a standard Handi in .223.
Can both barrels fit on either frame?  And would one frame be better suited for the 45-70 barrel and a 30-30 barrel.  And Quick, did I understand I do not have to buy a new forearm for the Ultra frame?

Sb2 frames are sb2 frames, although according to factory they will not fit some barrels to a frame depending on serial number.  The best way to answer the questions is to spend the time in the frequently asked questions sticky near top of forum page.  Believe me these questions are asked all the time and this sticky is the best fore just about any question that may come up.

I have had many barrels bought 2nd hand that have fit a frame or two or three.  The more frames you have the better your chances to finding a mate for a barrel you buy 2nd hand.  Have you swaped barrels between the ultra and regular?  If they both fit each other to the spec recommended in the faqs , and the regular is of a certain serial number then sending to factory is a matter of personal choice.  I.e. which has a nicer trigger pull, better stock fit etc.  I personally would send only one frame and have the barrels fitted to it, saving money of course.  As for the forearms they will fit each other, excpt for the 10 ga barrels, but most handiholics latter find a dedicated forearm for each barrel, then when the sickness reaches fullblown handiittis, you will soon need dedicated frames for each barrel.  Good luck!
