Finally found Blackhorn 209 locally
« on: January 07, 2009, 04:14:06 AM »
Went to the local gunshop yesterday to pick up a couple bags of lead shot. While I was there I asked about Blackhorn 209. He comes out with a container and I was suprised and elated. Until I looked at the price tag, $39.99 for a container. I thought that was a little steep. Anybody else finding some shops inflating the price because they are the only place in town that carries it. >:(

Same in my area.  I bought one container last year for $28.00.  Now the same shop wants $42.00.  I'm going back to Pyrodex Select until I can get a better deal.

And at 42 bucks they have the nerve to put it in a 10 0z can too. Can't they give you a pound like everyone else.

with the weight to volume difference you supposedly get the same number of shots in 10oz. as you get in a lb. of black. "supposedly" being the key word.

When measuring 100 gr. of 777 comes to 70 gr. of weight on a powder scale. It is 39 bucks a can by me, 24 a midway so it's all over the place.

Someone else's misfortune was my good fortune.  A local outdoor shop went under financially, and in the sell off I bought Blackhorn for $20.00 a jug.  They only had four, but that will last me a long time.  I really like the stuff, and hope as it becomes more popular, it will get more reasonable.

I debated & decided to go to a gunshow yesterday, 1st time in 3 years or so. It was a smaller to medium size event. I spent more time than I thought I would. I did buy 1k win SR primers for $32.50, not a lot available. They had Blackhorn 209 for $29.99. I almost got some but I still have enough going out 2 yrs+, so I passed. It's supposed to store better than some of the other substitutes but I'd rather stay fresh. I tried to trade an A-Bolt 'micro-hunter' 223 magazine for partial credit but most didn't want to. They said it was to specialized & hard to move. One guy would but hard as I tried I could not find anything useful on his table. One guy had lots of powder available, all types, prices in the mid to upper teens. I noticed lots of guys walking the isles with guns for sale, thats where to best deals should be.

No so... you use the same amount of Bh that you would normall use with T7... BH is a progessive buring powder - until you get up in bullet weight you will not see the velocit gains..
