Remington Genesis .50Cal Muzzleloader Problems???
« on: January 07, 2009, 05:43:28 AM »
Got a Remington Genesis 50Cal muzzleloader (laminate thumbhole stock, stainless steel barrel) on order from Cabelas.  Have not received it yet - it's on backorder.

Other hunters have found problems with the ramrod bending, and the ramrod being too short.  Also read about problems with the flip-open breech getting fouled.  Has anybody experienced these?

I had a Traditions, (same gun made for Rem.), and encountered both problems.  What I found is to use only WD 40 on the  block breech, and clean it often.  As far as the ramrod, I purchased a solid replacement for about $11.00--not a big deal.  When I used gun oil, the breech block would gum up fast.
Other than that it shot well.

To Mechanic...Where do you get the replacement ramrod for the Genesis? Check my local gun shops with no luck.

Try this site.

You will also find the ramrod is a little short to go completely through the bore.  I bought a T handle bullet starter, that will screw into the ramrod to lenthen it, and is helpful at the range.  I got that locally, it was made by Thompson Center.
Hope this helps.

Walmart had the T/C brand cut to fit replacement ramrods for $4.00 last I checked.  They are ok for hunting.
