Need replacement Thompson Center breech
« on: January 08, 2009, 12:26:52 PM »
I have an older .54 T/C Renegade which has a badly worn nipple hole. The only nipple I can get to thread tightly is a Knight red stainless. The T/C and Mikes just spin instead of tightening. My preferance is to find a replacement breech which has the same angled ignition channel(don't know the technical term) of about 30- 40 degrees.(?)  I have a .50 T/C Renegade, but it has a 90 degree ignition channel.  I seem to have a harder time cleaning the 90 degree breech and the .54 is my favorite caliber for black powder competition shooting. Can someone give me a source or business to call?  I've already bought some oversized brass nipples, but the flash holes are really small making me wonder about reliable ignition. Thanks for any help!!

I think if you want a new breech, I'd send it to TC and have them replace it, it's warranted for life.  ;) Flash holes can be drilled out if it's too small, that's not a problem,  Track has stainless oversize nipples.

Tim: hit the nail on the head
lifetime warranty pack it up and return the barrel to t/c customer service with a note on the problem
they will replace and more then likely re blue the barrel for NO CHARGE
all you have to do is pay the shipping to them.

T/C is really your only option, they have an odd-ball proprietary thread, no "over the counter" breechplug will fit, plus they're durn near impossible to remove. However, I would not be concerned about the small flash hole in those replacement nipples, they are designed that way for a reason and work just fine, I don't think you'll have a problem with them.
