Dom,

The number of different styles of cannon you have created is impressive! I really like the looks of that tube!

the turnings really look good! Great work!

Once again upon my request Dom Carpenter has done an outstanding job in furfilling a vision of a cannon to have a part in my collection. Just as in the first Dictator mortar ever built by Dom, in which I requested several years ago that everyone here on the GBO Cannons loved and had to own. Hopefully that this Revolution Howitzer will be replicated hundreds of times over for all to enjoy.ROCKLOCK I would be lying if I didn't say I'm eager to get my hands on her and make some fire and smoke. CAT I kinda like the sky blue, but pink is a bit extreme. Once again Donny an outstanding Job, Always a pleasure EL Caz. 66  :)

Dom is right up there with the latest regs, that's an OSHA requirement now.  There have been accidents with new cannoneers lighting the cannon from the muzzle with typical disasterous results.  Some people just weren't born to be gunners!

Reminds me of the Vietnam-era Claymore mines where on the convex side was stencilled:  "This side toward enemy."  There was a very practical reason for that, those things were devastating to anyone on the convex side for at least 50 meters.  And btw I'm just kiddin' about the OSHA thing.  Howie Zowie.

Thanks for the compliments.  The "front" on the axle is to ease assembly.  It's not so obvious on the darker carriages. "This side towards enemy" will be the new option instead of "front".  Thanks for the idea Cannonmn .  I was told the Vietcong used to turn the claymores around when they would find them.     Dom

I was told the Vietcong used to turn the claymores around when they would find them.

And then the Americans would put tin foil on the backs so they could tell if they had been turned around.  By the way, the back blast from a Claymore is nothing to be quickly dismissed, either.  You should be behind cover when you touch it off.

At first glance I thought.... "Hmmm. Dom's using wood now?"

Those trails aren't cut from solid plate, are they ???

If I tried to fabricate something hollow in that shape it would come out looking like pieces of spiral pasta...

Victor,

I Built the trail from 4" x 1/8" flat steel for the side pieces and 1" channel for the top and bottom.  The top side is welded solid, ground and sanded flush and the bottom is stitch welded.  It's best to weld in segments and move around the piece to minimize heat build-up of the metal.  This will minimize any warpage.  The "T" bolt is the lock for the quoin.

Nice "under carriage" shot, Dom! Not many chances to get an "under the skirt" look like that. However, it is a great shot of your quality of work, craftsmanship top, bottom, inside and out! Thanks! BoomLover

 Thanks for the explanation Dom.

And thanks for the tips on how to keep the twisting down, but at the bargain prices you charge to make such things, I think I'll just send a check and let you handle it  ;)

You're welcome Samurai5!

Rocklock,  The bore is 1.75"  The shipping weights [boxed] are  Barrel: 46 lbs.  Wheels: 48 lbs.  Carriage, axle and tools: 58 lbs.  152 total minus approx 15 lbs. for boxes = 137 lbs. give or take a few.  Wheels are 20" diameter, trail is approx 32" long, width is approx 24" and the barrel is approx 14" OAL.
Boomlover, thanks for the compliments.  Victor, you're welcome.     Dom

El Caz: You must have missed my question. Where can you launch golf balls down where you are? I get tired of shooting on my own acreage and I am only 75 min. +- from the casino in Monticello. (great prime rib buffet for $12 on Tuesday).

Hey, Dom, please put me on the list for one your coffee table glossy pictorials of all your works! That would be a conversation starter, for sure! "The Unabridged Works of Master Cannoneer, Dominic Carpenter", in full, living color! It sure would be unique! Actually think that could make a best seller list, somewhere! BoomLover

Sorry Richard, I missed your post. I normally shoot GB Mortars on my property which is 2.5 acres deep and after that theirs 30 plus arces of forest behind my land. If you would like we can get together this spring, summer or fall. I can come up to you or you can come down to me, I'm game. :D

I'll keep in touch. It can always be a moveable feast;)   I have a 300+lb pile of wood, iron and steel in my garage just waiting to be shaped and a lumbar traction board in the house, trying to put me in shape to build:-\   The 500 lb "Lion's Paw" needed a baby brother and I worked on a design. A hum-dinger:-X   Maybe when I turn 80 I'll be thinking about the little toys? (make that 90).8)  Like the CD I gave you, my daughter will blast my ashes into the valley ;D
