anybody with a Getz barreled rifle?
« on: August 22, 2003, 07:00:44 AM »
I just recenly acquired a Chambers York rifle with a 42" 50 cal barrel. I'm headed to the range Sunday to find some loads for this rifle with different powders, patches, ball, etc.

Can anybody offer some proven loads ? I'd like to not waste a whole lot of supplies to find a load this rifle likes to shoot. In doing some research and talking with the barrel maker, I'll be starting with a .490 pillow-ticking patched ball and 55 grs 3F Swiss. I'll also be trying 2F Swiss and Goex, and some .495 balls as well.

any suggestions ? I've heard these rifles will shoot cloverleafs at 50 yds..........

Barrels, I'm sure you've heard, can be finicky like a woman, which isn't always a bad thing.  Personally I like the .490 with the thicker pillow ticking on top of 65 gr of 2ff Goex.  Experimentation is the only way to find out.  Lots of shooting is a good thing.
aim small, miss small

well i got it down to a 2" group at 50yds with 55grs 3F Swiss , a .490, and some precut PT patches. I ordered some real stuff from Dixie and havent got it yet.
I am convinced the rifle will do better - I'm going to try it again this weekend and try some different powders and charges. At least i got the breech fouling under control with the 55gr load :)
