AtlLaw, I must say, looks good. I've made my disrespectful remarks on here about your profession but, your one who I would feel comfortable to "ride the river with".  You, sir, don't just talk the talk but, walk the walk. Maybe 'cause we're from the same generation and you've been where I've been and done what I've done?

I think you're on to something there!  Grey Beard (Bill) and I were talking once about this very thing once .  He said something to the effect that you can't have been around as long as we have and shared as many of the same experiences and NOT have similar opinions on things.  Not a direct quote but a good observation nevertheless!   ;)

Stay with it brother our warraanty is up so lets ride it like we stole it while we can. The cell phone thing is ridiculus and deadly. The texting is worse and causing way more accidents. I saw one monday where a kid was texting and rear ended another car causing at least a three car pile or more. Legislation  in the works to ban it here in Oklahoma and I hope it passes soon.

Studies I've read liken driving while using a cell phone to DUI.  I believe it!

 ;DBeen a while since I have been here. Have put many miles on the old goldie this summer.. We put on 400 plus this past Sat. Would like to go on the Keys Florida trip for a week , but don't have the vacation time left for that. Do have another north bound parkway trip planned this weekend that I may attend . overnight at Front Royal , and all day riding south. My plan at 1000 miles minimum a week for the summer started out great and rain killed it on the weekend riding so that didn't pan out to well.

  We're still here.... Man, where did summer go? Still hoping that we get an Indian Summer - have 11 vaca days left to use up, and was banking on taking a couple Fall weekend rides. Also some smallmouth fishing. The best ones we have caught have always been in the fall.
   Giturgun... was thinking of you at a swap meet couple weekends ago... saw a old GL1000 motor sell for 25 bucks. Looked complete and it turned over. Been a great year for swap meeting. We always take a "shopping list".... of stuff that our buds are looking for. Couple of them needing old sportster parts, and naturally the hard to find stuff. ('70 electric start primary cover, and sprocket cover, fork boots for a '58, and a '57 primary cover with the letters cast into it, etc.) Found them all.... only came up blank one time and that was a rear head for a 1000 O ring intake. Also picked up plenty used tools.
   Had to put a starter on OL's Springer last week... The high compression finally cashed it. Put on a chrome 1.8kw, and one of the "Big Boar" batteries that are claimed to be the best. Lot of money for a battery, but man, it spins over now like never before. Guess we should have done it long time ago. Starter job on any soft tail is a PITA, and we had to re route some braided stainless and notch the tranny trim cover to make the longer starter fit.
   Not doing any gun work except for the tinkering with the Chipmunk when we feel like it. Stock is finished and the next time my buddy the gunsmith has his tanks fired up, we will run over and blue it. Been trying to find some small sling swivels for it. Guess we'll end up having to make those up also.
   Guess plenty of you guys are bow hunting already. Heard on the news this morning about a kid over in Marshall County took a header out of a tree, and got laid up. Be careful.
   Also starting to think about looking for another dog. We lost Heidi this past summer - will never be able to replace her, but finally gettin' over it. Not the same without a good dog around......Guy's got to have a dog.
         Hoping this find all of you well, and ride careful;

I have been riding since I was 16 and now going on 62. It never fails to amaze me how the same guys who used to put us down for not being able to afford anything more expensive, now want to be just like us? Bikers were the people in high school who rode their bikes to school rain or shine, snow or whatever because it was the only transportation we had. We didn't buy a new motorcycle in the spring and sell it in the fall. Seldom did we have a bike that looked brand new or even good. We rode because we had to, and couldn't afford any other form of travel. Today, motorcycles have become popular maybe because of all the drivein movies(1960s) about the Kalifornia gangs but, not all bikers are gang members.
Just thought I'd mention the true roots of being a biker that's trash.

Dirt Bag where you catch that smallie. I caught one about a 1 1/2 lbs in Blue near the Hunting  area in late august on a jig and red worm. Been riding the Dyna every chance still in the 50's and 60's here.  Lot of misty rain though.

Hey D&H - Glad to hear you still have good weather. We will ride up until the first time the roads get salted. Cold don't matter - that's the best time - when the trees are all colored up, and your eyes water and your nose runs..... and the air is good and the bikes run the best. It aint over yet.
   River here called the Vermillion ... mile or so down from the Lowell bridge. Fish for them plenty, and they seem to go nuts for a while in the fall. Have seen them coming up chasing minnows and have caught them on topwater then. I know that sounds nuts, but it happens. Got this one on a Clouser minnow that Mamacita tied, and that made it extra fine. I measured him out at 20 inches. (taxidermist, who charges by the inch, called him 22 though).  A half mile east of the house is the Little Vermillion. Fantastic fishing but you need a machette to get down in there to the good parts. Worhtwhile, as we have it all to ourselves. Best one in there so far has been 17 incher, and lost one once that might have been just a little bigger... You know... the ones that bust off are always bigger. Have fished for everything from salmon to bullheads, and there aint nothing yet that kicks ass like river smallmouth.... out of the water most of the time or heading out into the current where you have to chase after them to keep from breaking the leader. And of course you go in over the top of the waders, and in the fall that shrivels a guy up like few things can. Started playing around with the fly rods several years ago just to fish those kind of places. You got to try it. Nice little 14 foot Alumacraft been sitting upside down on the tailer since.

Dirt Bag, ever have any luck in or near Bailey Falls where the Vermillion dumps into the Illinois, west of Ottawa? My older boys like to fish behind the old Ottawa Marquette H.S. for catfish, at night. Also, where the Illinois and Fox meet.

Steve;
   The Big V. runs into the Ill. at Jonesville - pretty much flat water and soft bottom by then. Have fished for whites there. Baily Falls is upstream a ways and part of an old quarry and posted. Have lived here most of my life and never seen it, although guys at work have been back in there on dirt bikes and say it is nice. Couldn't tell ya. Never have had to go too far down from Lowell to find good fishing. Fox looks good from what we've seen of it, but haven't fished it. Got all we could ask for right here close to the house.

 ;D  Have had to park the old goldie for a few days . Rain is like ice and I have a rear brake , actually a non rear brake non function problem. Don't mind riding in the cold and can ride just fine with only the friont working . But don't want to ride much in the wet winter with no rear brake problems. Guess I will have to take it apart and fix that little problem
  I am looking at a 97 1500 6 Wing for long distance hauling , Supposed to be a beautiful pearl white bike . Have been wanting another bagger lately and something in this catagory is right up me old alley.
  Think I may run up the road and throw the old peepes on it tomorrow.
   I haven't been in the woods yet . Bow season is open and I just don't do that . Muzzle loader opens soon though and rifle , so It won't be long .

Look out there old mossey horn hear I kum

Dang I THOUGHT That you were talking catching that smallie in Oklahoma and the kid fell out of the tree in Marshall county Oklahoma near me. Small world with the names sometime.  I fired the old Ironhead the other night and it puked a little oil out of the slobber tube from sitting so long but smoothed right up. I will hammer on it this winter when the riding, hunting and honey do's are done. Gotta go meet the crew for a little short run then some pool and burgers at the Elks lodge. Still have not hit the woods yet but the boys are scaring them to death. I'm just not as mad at the deer like I used to be, but will get the fever quickly.

Yep, born in Streator, moved to Pontiac after a divorce in '74 and lived here ever since. Been running the Illinois form of Vermillion River for the better part of 60 years.

 ;DThe old deer season is right around the korner I gotta decide on this years weapon of choice in rifle season. The old 30-30 hasn't been out in about 20 years . Maby that one this year. The 6.5 Sweedie pie killed 2 and the 30-06 1 in the last 3 years. May get out the old 303 or one of the 3 7.62 x 54 r's Krap got about a round 20 to deer hunt with and it is the same every year. Decisions kill me .
  If I decide on the Tc Savage Or the Handi I have multiple barrel options with all them . Almost makes me wanna quit before I start. Now I won't sleep till it starts .

   Took one of the vacation days today....... Got too warm for a jacket this afternoon. Rode a little over 100 miles not really going anywhere, just south and all the small towns along the river. Place called Miller's hill we used to go to when we were kids. Thought I'd take a run up there, and Man it was puckering - loose gravel and steep, and not the place to ride a bagger. Coming back down was easier. Anyway, the valley is just starting to color up, and looks like the duck clubs are already pumping down below. Good place to go sit for a while and just take it all in.

I wrung out 347 miles Sunday on a ride to Mt Scott in the SW corner of OKLAHOMA. I took some photos on my phone and can't get them off to post them. Great ride saw elk , buffalo, longhorns and deer everywhere down there.  43 when we left got to 64 then 49 by the time I pulled into the driveway.

Loading up to leave for the last rally of the year at Sparks Ok. Will be a 4 day ordeal and it has rained for 24 hours straight. The rain has quit and the sky is clearing for a beautiful weekend in the 60 and low 70's. Hopefully it will dry a little before the 7-10 k people showup Saturday. Just need to let the road dry a little before I launch the Dyna that way.

P.S.  Awful dillema ya have there Giturgun (not knowing which rifle to use). 'Bout all a guy could do is get himself a couple more to pick from. Myself, I'd go with the 30-30, but we're not allowed to shoot deer with rifles here, although I hear it's been done. Good luck.

I went on a short ride today to test some cold weather gear. My new face mask, neck gator and Goretex lined jeans, even better then chaps, they protect the crotch area and are wind proof. See link below.

Rode to the rally on thursday and it was brisk in the high 40's but warmed to the low 60's. Did bike games all weekend and never got anything but had a blast doing them. We enjoyed good food ,good bands and some adult beverage. OL was worn out on Sunday and wanted me to drive the truck and trailer so I trailered the bike home and glad I did . 40 miles from home the rain started and kept it up until I got home. Darkness, rain and 50 degrees would not have been pleasant. Bad part was a  26 yo kid was headiing to the rally and got off the road into a ravine about two miles from there. That was on friday, they did not find him until Saturday afternoon and he was dead. Bad deal.

 ;DI rode about 75 miles today , not counting the trip to work . I had bad fog before daylight and it was nice this evening. Made the old Fort Blackmore loop and hit a few 1 lane dirt runs that brought back lots of 30 year old memories when me and mine sweedie pie was much younger riding on my old chopper would ride in that area a lot.
My how time flies.
I have broke down and started looking for my next ride, Have even decided to let my insurance run out on the old wing since I plan on having a newer or maby even a new skoot next spring or earlier.
Gonna keep my old ride and retire it for short fair weather rides and put some apes , a foot clutch and tank shift on it maby .
 Haven't really decided the final plan yet. But a new ride is gonna happen.
