which is the most reliable most accurate of the two in the highpoints? tis will be my first major experience with a semi auto handgun i have handled and shot a few but im mainly experienced in revolvers which i shoot and hunt with often. is either of the .40 or .45 caliber hipoints accurate enough for a short range deer handgun?

i thought the same thing then i saw the price tag and thought they might be a fun gun to try. if for no other use maybe a self defense gun.

they are good for the money but for self defence

Hi Points have stirred a lot ruckus in the gun industry. 120.00 pistols that have good accuracy and a lifetime warranty that extends through whoever owns the gun, be it the first or third owner. A lot of people that do not like Hi-Points are those that have never shot one.

Buy one and try it, if you don't like it, sell it and get your 100.00 back...

my hipoint carbine was one of my favorites before it was stolen
have sold 4 and all customers happy but they didn't know what to compare it to

if you want it for fun and a good value go for it

if you want serious self defence get a revolver

i have a short barreled shotgun that i like real well for self defense i just like good excuses to buy new guns. i was kinda oping for information about accuracy and power of these two calibers.

i would do that but since m funds are very low and i have to wait till income taxes i should be able to get one of them. maybe later on i could get several other models if i am satisfied with the first.

that is very true. my sisters mother in law bought the .380 a couple years back she is extremely happy with it. so my family needs to try te rest of the hipoint models. im also interested in the carbines they look nice.

Hi Point pistols (regardless of caliber) are just as good if not better than a lot of "high dollar pistols" on the market today. They may be big and bulky but they're accurate and reliable,....in short, THEY WORK.

Hi Point Pistols have fully adjustable rear sights for windage and elevation. So, hitting a target the size of a deer out to 25 yards isn't out of the question. I can consistantly hit an 8x10 paper target at 25 yards with about 3 inch groups with my Hi Point C9 9mm.

so that goes back to the main question. which of the .40 or .45 packs more punch. every source i see says something different.

Unless you are shooting law enforcement, +P+, or really hot handloads the .45 is
always going to have more stopping power.

i just remembered i have an uncle with a 1911 that might let me test it to see if i like the .45 and a while back e said something about gettin a .40 so i might get to test both calibers so i can make a decision. thanks for all the info guys.

i just thought of something else. how do these pistols work for a left hand shooter. that was the main reason i got the revolvers i have. can the safeties be changed for a lefty?

i am a lefty
i don't recall any issues

i try not to use a saftey
prefer to just not chamber till ready to fire
the safest thing
then operate the safty with my right hand if a round ischambered on most autos

did i say revolvers are the way to go

i have a .22 revolver i use for squirrels and rabbits sometimes. great little gun but like ive said i want to try an auto.

High point .40 has a 10 round mag the 45 has a 8 round mag. that's the only difference. Don't buy it w/lazer. I won't hold zero. FTE's are mostly due to people who limp wrist them. hold it with a firm grip and rock n roll. I have roughly 3k rounds thru my .40 and still enjoy shooting it.

if my income tax can leave me enough money i will be buying the .40 probably since ammo is cheaper and i love to shoot handguns and i like the idea of gettin te carbine to match since it is said clips can be interchange between the .40 pistol and carbine.

I have owned all calbier of carbines and pistols at one time or another of the HI-Point Line and had NO PROBLEMS WITH ANY !

My brother backed over my Hi-Point carbine in while in a truck ,smashed it good...sent it back to HI-POINT and they repaired (made it like new ) and sent it back to me and through in 2 Mag.s ..for MY trouble ?

as you may tell I'm a HIGH-POINT fan ..I've got Glocks and XD'S and a passale of revolvers in the safe and a HI-POINT 9mm compact next to my bed at night moves to my truck dash when on trips. on my side during lard work ,cutting wood ,or on hikes....

1000's of rounds put through her no failures...

A simple answer would be no for a deer gun for handgun hunting.

But if you want to get one to just have for the range, HD or carrying as some do (its not my personal choice, but with some its all they can afford) either the HP40 or HP45 will work. I personally had experience with the HP45 as it was given to me by my brother in law. It was one of the older HP45's and it ran like a tank. It would not jam for the life of me I tried to get it to jam..... I looked at this ugly looking handgun called Hi Point and tried to make it not work. Outside of really trashing it in the dirt, mud and dragging it behind my truck on a gravel road (which I did not due BTW) it just kept running like a tank and shot to POA.

If anything had gone wrong with it, I would have just sent it back in to Hi Point for their Unconditional Repair Policy For The Life Of The Firearm.

BTW the
45 acp holds 9+1 (which is a small improvement)
40 s&w is a 10+1
9mm and 380 are still only 8+1

so there is no kind of hunting suitable to use a .40 or .45 caliber handgun to within say 35-45 yards if well practiced? i know it can be done deer have been taken with a .45 acp i just wanted to know if it was reliable enough to pack as back up to a rifle.
