SKS Help
« on: January 10, 2009, 06:51:44 AM »
Well being new to SKS I could use a little help.
While cleaning, learning and inspecting my SKS
I accidentally let the jesus clip slip out of the
recoil spring assembly :-\
I know what needs to be done but am looking for
any tricks you guys have to get the spring compressed
with out the little rod moving in also so I can get the
retaining clip back on.

Go ahead and laugh, but I bet you have been there ;D

Here is what I figured out and thought I would share it with you as it worked like a champ.
Looking around my garage for something that would slide into the outer shaft
from the opposite end that the inner rod sticks out of I found a long gutter nail
and cut it to the proper length. (any thing of the proper diam. would work)
then simply stood it up on the bench, pushed the spring down, held the spring with one hand and slipped on the clip with the other.
Worked effortlessly.
Hope this helps some of you.

No thinks, its a little early to drink ;D
That would work fine but I wanted something the right length.
An after thought was an old aluminum cleaning rod cut to length.
Now I just throw it in my cleaning kit.
