Well, it's time to start making "Graybeard Cowboy Action Shooting" a good site to visit for some cowpokes.....

Ten lines to tell you about me -

1.  My name comes from an 1843 Texas Ranger and my dog, well-known in the terrier world to some.

2.  I shoot Duelist with AWA Longhorns, a Marlin '94 in .357 and a Stoeger .12 gauge SxS.

3.  Biggest Accomplishments to date:  made 'Shootist" Category (three 1st's in Duelist in 1 year, with 5 or more shooters) and have five (5) Clean Matches.

4.  Think "Open Range" is best Western ever made.

5.  Gene Autry was my boyhood hero.

6.  Feel Tom Selleck portrays Cowboys excellently - "Quigley Down Under" and "Monte Walsh".

7.  Like the "looks" of Jennifer Lopez and Penelope Cruz.

8.  My Grandfather came to this country in 1897 from England as an Iron Miner in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.

9.  Live in Paradise, Texas (41 miles NW of Dallas).

10.  My beautiful wife is an Animal Artist and doing well at it (.....surprised me!!!).

Well, that's a short encapsulation of me (not all encompassing tho') and sure would like to hear about you, Pards......

"Was kind of rambling, wasn't it.......?"

 :D  :-)

5. I stay confused.  :oh:  :yeah:

6. I'm still working on getting all my gear together for a look and honestly haven't fully decided just what look I'm looking for. I told ya I stay confused.

8. Ain't shooting that messy black stuff. Smokeless only fer me.

9. Shoot a pair of EMF Dakota .45s with short 4-3/4" barrels, an EMF Model 92 rifle also in .45 Colt and a Stoeger 20 ga. SXS cuz that's about all the recoil my wore out right shoulder will take these days.

Hello "Pardners."
(1) My body resides in Indiana, but my heart is in Tennessee. I am a child of the south and proud of it!
(2) I am an avid fan of great westerns. My favorite t.v. western is THE RIFLEMAN with Bonanza so close behind that there's not enough room to slide a sheet of paper between them.
(3) My favorite actors in westerns are: Clint Eastwood, Sam Elliott, Randolph Scott, and John Wayne.
(4) I am a member of SASS, and I convinced my wife to join. This made me one happy "Cowboy."
(5) My favorite "cowboy" guns are a pair of blued Uberti Cattleman, four and three quarter inch barrels, case hardened frame, in .44-40. I also have a stainless Rossi saddle ring carbine in .44-40. I believe the .44-40 to be the greatest and probably most underrated cartridge from the old west. It is in my judgment, a powerful and fabulous cartridge.
(6) I also support the NRA in its stand for the right of law abiding Americans to keep and bear arms.

Kindest regards to all,
Rifle Man

Don't let Mr. Rooson fool ya.  Everyone who lives in Texas lives in Paradise.  My apologies, RB, for the following format.  I had to do everything "by the numbers" for 29 years in the Army, and I'd just as soon refrain from your requirement.

The original owner of my alias, Captain A. H. (Hamp) Cox, commanded the Texas Ranger company (Company  "B", Frontier Forces) in 1870-1871 in which my 17-year old great grandfather, and his 55-year old father both served.  The younger of my ancestors was a private, and the elder was the unit's medical officer, holding the rank of Captain. Intrestingly, according to their discharge papers, both were allowed to retain their 1866 Winchester carbines upon their discharge, and both had $30 deducted from their final pay for that purpose.

I've been involved in CAS for about four years now, have shot duelist for about two years (or senior duelist where offered) and am seriously considering transitioning to double duelist.  I shoot a pair of stainless RVs (both with genuine stag grips my wife and son gave me this past Christmas) and an 1894 Marlin, all in .44 Mag, and either a Rossi Coach gun (w/hammers) or a single trigger Stevens 5100, both in 12 gauge.  I'm very fortunate in that my wife, Texanna Trueheart, also enjoys CAS, is my CAS shooting buddy, and we are both SASS members.  She shoots blue RVs and a Marlin 1894, all in .357 mag, and a Fox Model "B" in 20 gauge.  I do all the reloading for both of us on a Dillon RL 550B and a pair of MECs.

This has been a "dry" year for me, shooting wise, as I had cataract surgery in Feb., neck surgery in May, and will have cataract surgery on the other eye next month.  Next year's got to be better, but just think how much better I'll do when I can actually see the targets.

Proud to have all of you Pardners on this Posse!

- DB Leath attends the same SASS clubs as I do......and DB, I found your reponse very interesting.  Amazing that you get to know about a person once they start talking.  What town "just north of Ft. Worth" do you live in?  And Pard, we've got to 'Posse Up' more often....would enjoy shootin' with you again!

- Howdy Dowdy, I kind of get the impression that you shot Black Powder and Frontier Cartridge.......more power (and powder) to ya'.  Don't think that I could handle it......

- Marshal Graybeard, just startin' out in CAS. huh?  Well, you've got years of enjoyment ahead of you.  And Thanks for Administrating the site!!!!

- Rifleman, my 1st CAS guns were in .44-40 and have kept my original RV to this day, simply because it was my first cowboy gun.  Have gone to .38/.357 for economic reasons (didn't even think about less recoil at the time.....).

Capt. Hamp Cox - very interesting about your Texas Ranger heritage and your preference for Duelist (the only way to go....)!  What clubs do you shoot at in Texas?  Hope that your surgeries come out perfect!!!!!

Howdy, I am Big Hext Finnigan and I am a CAS-aholic.

I spend entirely too much time thinking, talking and reading about Cowboy Shooting.

My first priority is to my God.  He and I have our disagreements, usually cause I put the bit between my teeth and buck.  He rides me out and calms me down.  Sure glad my Master is Him.

Second priority is my family, which I keep trying to get more involved in CAS, so I can combine these two passions.

Next I love guns and dogs and horses.  I've had dogs the longest.  My first was an English Bulldog, named Huckleberry.  He and I grew up together.  Then I got to hunting and started with Labradors.  I hunted and trialed and tested those mutts for years and years.  Got a pair of GSPs for comic relief.  Right now, I'm transitioning to Jack Russell Terriers.  Got my first one and he is a hoot.

I don't remember when I first sat a saddle.  Likely it was in front of my Dad on old Ribbon.  I rode quarter horses or cow ponies til I my college girlfriend introduced me to polo and them little bitty saddles.  Never could get used to that saddle, but I did like mixing it up on horseback, especially with them fancy boys.  Now my folks have gotten soft and the house horses are all Tennessee Walkers.  Big ol' dinner plate hoofed critters.  Easy to ride though.

Guns, well.. I got a few.  CAS, I shoot Cimarrons or Rugers or Rems.  I'm finding that I shoot the Marlin the best, even though I really want to shoot  my 66 well.  Shotgun, I don't care.  I've been shooting the scattergun the longest and I'm a fair wingshot.  I like the hunt.
I started off traditional and now I'm dueling.  I find that the longer barrels are best for me when I shoot one handed.  I shoot 45LC, 44mag and 357mag.  I shoot about twice a month, usually at the Texican Rangers and my home club, the Tejas Caballeros.

More than anyone wants to know about me, for sure
And call me a masochist, but I like Anne Coulter and Laura Ingraham.  Brains and beauty. Hrrrrr.

Adios,
But what is liberty without wisdom, and without virtue? It is the greatest of all possible evils; for it is folly, vice, and madness, without tuition or restraint.  - Edmund Burke

In response to RB Rooson's question "What clubs do you shoot at in Texas?", I've gotta say that, up until this year, it was the same two Big Hext mentioned (in fact I've shot on the same posse with him a couple of times).  Hopefully, I'll be able to get back with both by early '04.

1. Uh, Cuts Crooked is an aging mountain man that finally came down amongst the flatlanders. He's old but hale and willin to do anykind of work from pushing cattle, breakin horses, to bartendin 'n storekeepin if need be. He doesn't really need to work, having done well in the fur trade before it bottomed out and having saved carefully, along with keeping the proceeds of years of of gold panning while in the mountains. He's got a taste fer fine clothes, good whisky, and an eye fer the ladies. (with a soft spot fer the "workin girls")
(That's the charactor I invented fer CAS)

2.I shoot 75 Remmies and 92 Rossi in .45. My scatter gun is an antique Crecsent Arms SxS with external hammers.

3. Frontier Cartridge Duelist is my game. (that's how I shot even before usch a catagory existed) I ONLY shoot BP in my CAS gunz!  8)

4. In the "real World" I'm a Federal Law Dawg and have been ridin' behind a badge for over 20 years.

5. I live in Iowa, one of the fastest growing CAS states in America. (the number of CAS clubs has more than doubled in a years time. Iowa is also the home range of NCOWS and where the NCOWS National Championships are held)

6. I'm a inveterate writer, having been published in The Cowboy Chronical, MuzzleBlasts, and multiple midwest newspapers. I write about Black Powder firearms, and Second Amendment issues.

7. My hobbies are CAS and hunting with old style frontstuffers (none of those inline thingies fer me) for all types of game.

8. My home CAS club is  http://www.zenshootists.com/ and I'm also a board member of The Marion County Sportsmans Club. I've also shot with http://www.turkeyfoot.org/ and http://www.shadycreekshootists.com/. I also shoot with The Fort Des Moines Rangers http://www.swiftsite.com/ncows/ncows_posse_page.htm which is an NCOWS posse.

RB I am not sure if you even remember me or not.  I think we have shot twice together.  You may not have been able to see me over Willy Earps balack powder smoke.  I am looking forward to cooler weather.  And to the new club opening up in Sept.

I live in Watauga which is south of Keller near North Richland Hills..

It used to be quiet where I lived...dang if they havent gone and built up everything around us.

Howdy Gents (and ladies of course),

Long Colt Lawrence here and more than happy to talk about past cattle trails. I grew up in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia, fishin and huntin any chance I got. The rig I use now for CAS, I made decades ago and used it for ground hog huntin with my 44. Right now I'm livin the yankee territory of CT. Which ain't all that bad for a state north of the Mason Dixon Line (and the endless amount of redneck jokes I put up with).  I just got my SASS number last week and for those of you countin' its up to 53367! I would've shot my second match in August but it got rained out, so's I reckon I'll be waitin for septembers shoot.
My alias isn't based on anything in particular yet as I'm still assembling/aquiring/developing all the stuff needed to participate. But my grandparents hail from Yates Center, KS and I'll bet there's some good history to come out of that research. I'm into the sport for camraderie and fun, don't really care where I place at the end of the match.  'Course I'm shootin 45LC in my Hartford 92 and  EMF 43/4 Dakotas.
I can't help but notice a preponderance of members located in the state of Texas. My sister lives in Austin now and mabye I could use that as an excuse to shoot a match with some of you one day if your club is around there. That would really be exciting.  I'd also like to come down there and see for myself the wonderful state of Texas. Let me tell ya' the Shenandoah Valley is pretty hard to beat, I wouldn't mind talkin' it up a bit but there's only 12 hours left till bedtime and I don't want to quit just halfway through.
