charles daly little sharps
« on: January 10, 2009, 03:50:53 PM »
i saw these in the last issue of Rifle, and was quite taken with it. just not that thrilled with the caliber selection.what i am wondering is if it would be feasable to cut the chamber of a .30-30 model to .30-40 Krag. longer case and a bit higher pressures would be the issues here. i guess i could make do with a .22 hornet, or rebarrel a .218 Bee to .25-20. no where  am i gonna find one in Canada??!! ( and if i do, iscared what it'll cost with this so called depression and a suddenly dropped dollar.)

They are Sweet, at least the one made by the Sharps Co. was.  Held one at a gun show here in Billings last year, Looked at the price and very gently put it back.  Big Timber is just up the road 50-55 miles, so get to see lots of Sharps around here.  38-55 may not appeal to you, but I have 2 and it will sure work on deer and black bear.  I haven't done it, but elk and moose have been taken with her also.  DP

I think this is the rifle I've recently read about that is being offered in .38-55 and if so it has me very interested. I've been thinking of trying a single shot .38-55 for some time now but the "right one" just hasn't come into my hands yet. I think a slightly reduced size version Sharps could easily be that. I picture it in my mind as being kinda like the difference betweeen the Winchester 1885 High Wall and Low Wall guns. If so when I see one and if it's affordable I might come home with one.

The article says $1229 without  Malcolm scope. If someone can give you a lower price, so much the better. My best, Guy

That's probably more than I want one of them.

My local gun store is selling them for around $950.  I have to say that they look very cool.
