EMF Sharps Cavalry Carbine
« on: January 12, 2009, 05:08:02 AM »
Does anyone have experience with the EMF Sharps Calvary Carbine? I notice that it has a safey on the block, unlike other Sharps that I have seen.  The trigger seems way too heavy, but a gunsmith ought to be able to fix that.  The sights are very shallow, but work.  Accuracy seems so-so, but considering the trigger weight of 15 to 20 pounds, it could be  much better if the triggers were adjusted to something managable by a mere mortal.  Is this a gun worth considering?

I have had a few eMF's over the years and find it is kinda a crap shoot.  Some had soft parts, this could be the reason for the trigger issue.  And if not could become an issue if you break thru the case hardening while trying to slick up the parts or remove tool marks.  I have had a couple of their guns that were very nice and functioned well but had just as many on the other side of things.

Guess it depends on the price, if it is good enough then the repairs may not be an issue.  If not then if it were me, based on past experience, I would pass.

I have had excellent luck with the Pedersoli's and currently have both a Sharps replica and a roller.  Both function and shoot very well.

Wow! I've had several EMF guns and never a bad one yet. That's the first I've heard of this complaint of soft parts on them also. They are just Uberti made guns at least for the most part and Uberti is first rate all the way.

Graybeard,

Not sure if you have the lever guns, handguns and such or the singleshot versions but the ones I have had were the singleshots.

You are correct if they are made by uberti, they make fine firearms and I have had a number of theirs with no issues what so ever.  Again most of my experience has been with guns that were older and not the more recent production guns...

Take care..

I've had none of their single shots only the lever rifles and Colt Clone revolvers. In fact tho it's hard to see I have a pair of the revolvers in holsters on the belt in my avatar photo. They were the short 4-3/4" or so barrel version.

Just fine. Like ALL handguns without adjustable sights for me they shoot left of POA but accuracy was as good as to be expected of me shooting such a short barrel handgun. The rifle proved far more accurate than I expected. I have a product review of both in the product reviews available off the Home Page I think.
