Extraction and sticking brass is a moot issue since all H&R Centerfire rifles have manual extractors, have for a couple years now.

I'm sure a 35 Remington kills just fine, but I'd rather have either a 356 or 358 Winchester to the point that I just ordered a rifle in 308 Winchester with the intent of having it rebored & chamber opened up to 358 Winchester.  NOT interested in the 35 Whelen - just don't like getting my shoulder pounded that hard.

I don't see Remington having an interest in the 356 or 358 since they don't offer ammo for either.

I have never looked at the ballistics but I see a lot of interest in the 348 winchester in lever guns. might be worth looking into, also.

The .348 Winchester is a fine old cartridge and I would buy the first one that came out if I could. I have had two original Winchester Model 71's in .348 and still have the first I ever bought. I sold one years ago to finance a Christmas for the new and growing family. The .35 Remington is also a great cartridge and I have a couple, one an old Marlin 336 and the second is a Handi that started as a .357 Mag. The reason a .35 Remington is discussed is because there is already a barrel with the correct bore diameter and it is a simple matter to rechamber it to .35 Remington and put in a 30-06 ejector. It is an easy and cheap thing for the company to do. There is no barrel currently made with the correct bore diameter for a .348 Winchester. I would love to have a Handi in .348 Winchester....<><....:)

Remington makes ammo for the 35 Remington and Whelen, they don't make any for the 348, that doesn't help the cause any.  :'(

Yes I would buy this in a accessory barrel. One of the handi projects that I have wanted to do for the past few years is to make a Rimmed 35 Rem.  It would be very easy to do with a factory chambered barrel.  You can form a rimmed 35 Rem. on 30-40 Krag or 303 british brass and it,s then a good cartridge. I think as a rimmless cartridge it has to small of a shoulder for positive headspacing unless you can start out with a good fireformed piece of brass that has no strech in the web area and keep it that way.  With a rim or not it would be nice to have one, I like the 35 because it offers the most choices of bullet weights, nose shape, and velocity range, ( for a expanding hunting bullet ) than anything over 30 cal.  Yea I want one.

I'm torn on the 35 Remington. On one hand, I really liked my old Marlin 336 I had.I even lobbied Izhmash when they nearly offed the Saiga rifle in 35 Remington, but did not. Right now I'm too invested in the 7.62 x 39, 300 Win Mag and 500 S&W. As I get equipped for these rounds, I probably would warm up to buying one though.

So, what's the word on this?  Does Remington see this poll and consider whether it's worth putting into production or is this more of a "gee I wish" thing?  Either way, the dialog is good but I have always thought the H&R/NEF SSs were suited to the old, low pressure stuff - not because I thought the actions would not take the high-pressure rounds so much as that the rifles are nostalgic and would be a good platform for nostalgic rounds like the .35 Remington, 32-20, 25-20, etc.  I am waiting for my own SB2 - not aggressively searching but watching for one to turn up used through private sale or trade and I would be delighted with a 30-30, .22 Hornet, .357 or .44 mag., but would be tickled pink with a .35 Remington.  After carrying a 20 gauge O/U for 35 years, I finally got the shotgun I have always wanted - a 20 gauge H&R.  It's a Pardner (what in the world model with a "dubloon" in the stock but it works) so it will stay a shotgun.  Need to find now the rifle I have always wanted....

Yeah, I know - the 30-03 morphed into the 30-06 the same year the .35 Rem. was born but I still view the '06 as "modern" and the .35' as "nostalgic."  Just the way I choose to view it I guess.

The 35 Rem is on hold pending the 35 Whelen testing, if the Whelen testing is successful, it will be the only 35 cal offering this year.  The 35 Rem isn't popular with distributors, no wholesaler has asked for one yet.  :-\

May just have to make one.
Going to do some comparisons on twist rates of other .35 Remingtons and see how it compares to the .357 mag barrels.  Maybe someone has done that already.

I have a 35 Rem Handi that was once a 357Mag>357Maximum, the 1:18¾" twist works fine with cast bullets up to 240gr at a bit shy of 2000fps, my next load will be the Hornady 180gr SSP at 2400-2500fps using Super 35 Rem data I found in a 1982 Layne Simpson article in Handloader magazine.  ;D

Thanks for sharing that, Tim.  Nice looking little rifle and some uncommon data there.  Slightly spicier than standard.
"Layne Simpson..." haven't heard that name in a while.  Just boxed that last of my old HLs and others to donate to a friend and saw several names I haven't noticed in a while - Simpson, Harvey, Fadala....

I am getting the bug for my second Handi even before I have found/put together my first!
