Looking at a 209x45 for G2
« on: January 14, 2009, 03:35:24 AM »
I have found a new 45 cal muzzleloader barrel for the G2 at a great price and was wondering if any of you fellows have any hands on experience with one. Though this would be kinda fun to have and shoot.

PS.
The shop has had this barrel for about a year and started off at 250.00 now asking 150.00 so it is very tempting but will have to get a fore end from ed or someone on forum. They only have a wood one and my G2 has a black composit stock.

I have a .50 for my G2 and love it. It is a light and compact rifle to carry. I know you are asking about a .45 and I haven't had any experience with one but if it shoots and handles like mine I think you will be happy.

What bullet combinations are you shooting?  Does the sabots have a tough  time going down  the bore?  I 've been thinking of getting a BP barrel for my G2, but had a bad experience with an Encore.
Just another voice in the crowd!!!

I had one of the 209x45 barrels.  Awesome little barrel and it shot well.  However, I walked past a stainless 209x50 barrel on a stainless G2 receiver and just had to have it.

I sold the .45 to a buddy.  Its done well for him so far.  It is a super lightweight, but the recoil was not objectionable.

As I said earlier, I replaced the .45 with the 209x50.  I love this set up.  Great carrying rifle.  I've been shooting 100 gr. of Pyrodex  and also some 80 gr. loads of BH209.  Recoil has been very, very tolerable. And there are so many other bullet choices for .50.

My hunting load this eyar was 2 50 gr. Pyrodex Pellets with a 250 gr. bonded Shockwave in the yellow ezglide sabot.

That prints about 1.5" in mine.

The Contender ML in either 209x45 or 209x50 is one of those setups that you wonder if everyone else will ever catch on to.  Go with it, you definitely will not be disappointed.

I shoot the 250 grain shockwave over 90 grains blackhorn. The sabot slides down the barrel just like my encore pro hunter. A little tight but not overly tight. I just bought mine this past summer and figured out that it weighs a whole lot lighter than my pro hunter .50 bp. So if I am going to be hunting tighter areas or walking around I carry the G2 if I am hunting the big open fields I use the pro hunter with the same bullet and 120 grains of blackhorn. I don't suggest the max load in the G2 Kicks like a mule.

I like TRM-1 have a new S/S G2 in 50 cal. Used it Dec. for our muzzleloading season and put some venison in the freezer with it. I like it all over the Pro-Hunter because it is shorter and alot lighter. And it shoots great. Did have a little problem with seating sabots but not bad. Was using 2 pellets of Pyrodex with 250gr Shockwaves. I've got to do more testing with different powders and sabots. The seating problem got better the more I shot it.

You fellows are going to keep bragging about how great these barrels are and force me to go and get it ,like I need another muzzleloader with a TC  triumph 50 cal and a CVA hunter bolt mag 45 cal already in the gun volt. :) :) :) and then I saw a Lyman Mustang  and fell in love with it too. :) :) but then if it were the need I guess we would not have as many as we have as one would do the trick. :) :) :)
