In an encounter with Law Enforcement, he or she will most likely set your firearm ASIDE during the encounter, to assure safety. You get them back at the end of the contact. I would expect that to happen on a stop involving a cop. They don't know you, or what you have in mind, or what you may have done, and the courts have held they may make the scene safe.
If your firearm is the
instrumentality of a violation it is evidence and it will be retained for court, possibly forfieted by the judge.
I quick trip to prison will result in pointing, running away with or hiding a firearm during a Law Enforcement stop.
