Let's see some pics of what everyone here carries for a kit gun, please? Here's mine. I'm not talking about bullseye shooting just fishing and timber tramping and being a woods bum.

nice little gun...what i am using for a kit gun/walkin around gun is a 5 1/2" stainless single six with a bisley conversion(blued bisley parts),22lr when i'm plinkin,22mag otherwise. For SA guys the Bearcat would be nice but I prefer adj sights. A good custom would be a 5 shot 32 mag Bearcat(Bisley) with adjustable sights but the work will cost big bucks.Best compromise for me would be a 4 5/8" Single six Bisley conversion,adj sights,caliber32Mag(my future project)....the other day i was in a local gun store and they had a 3" SP101 in the new 327 fed(they'll shoot 32 mag also) with adjustable sights, i handled it a little bit,and i was shaking like a leaf but managed to get out of there without putting down the plastic...it was a close one.Now I am avoiding driving down the street the store is located. Now I know what drug addicts go thru...cuz that SP101 is calling me.....

Wow, Steve. I like that! Where did you get those grips!!

They came from a gal over on Mike Packwood's S&W site that went by the handle of StagHag. Haven't seen much of her for a number of years. She and her husband dealt in stag grips. You might do a search for her and possibly find her still around handgun forums?

  Would love to have those on my model 10! In addition, good touch with the grip extender. That just looks incredibly sharp!! I inherited my grandfathers pre-21 (.44 Hand Ejector-third model) .44 Special (nickel) that he carried in the '30's and '40's as his police sidearm that have authentic stags, without S&W seal, which is sharp, BTW. I guess they let them carry stag grips for duty in those days  :D Good work with that little rimfire!!!!!

Here's my kit gun, not so heavy as it looks, very comfortable to carry in a shoulder rig, very versitile and best of all, I never miss any target, even moving targets, within 25 yards. I carry it with a 3" shell and #7 1/2 shot. It's deadly on bunnies, squirrels and grouse and I'm sure it would blast a snake to bits but we really don't have many rattlers around here. My German Shorthair did manage to find one but it was long gone before I got there. He was one really sick puppy for a few days and it took a full month before the last of the swelling went down.

I carry my Walther P22, and sometimes my Charter Arms  Police Bulldog 4" barrel .38 w/adjustable sights.

Steve:  that is sure a sweet lookin' little S&W and the Tyler T-Grip and those stag grips really top off the whole package and that would definately be the one to pack up in your kit or to take for a walk in the woods.

I recently got myself a Walther P22 and it is the most fun gun I have owned.  There is not one problem just taking that thing out to the back yard and shooting off a couple of boxes of ammo.  Kit guns are lots and lots of fun. 

Most often though I will pack something else as well - usually my Tokarev.  The Zoner mentioned the new 327 and that would also be a great woods caliber but I'm probably going to hold on one of those until S&W comes out with that caliber in a couple of models - hopefully a j-frame and maybe a K-frame too.  In the interim, my poor old Tok with the same ballistics as the 327 will have to suffice.......... Mikey, as I'm sure you know already, S&W once had the model 631(?) I think it was in .32 Long and magnun(I think) but, now they're so expensive they prohibit my wanting one. I can put the little J frame in a cargo pocket of BDUs and it disappears(even while hunting in shotgun only timbers(here in the land of the lost, Illinois). Grand children have shot this gun with no problems, maybe a brick or two a year. It's the one new shooters grab first when I take them to the range?
One thing about Kit guns: you can take several bricks of ammo, some diet pepsi cans, and a Walmart plastic bag out along the river bank, and have a ball? Kids love these outings and they learn shooting skills, resposibilities, and discipline?

Just thought I'd add my other suedo kit gun to this thread. This is what I used for timber tramping before I found the S&W 63, it's such a sweet shooter I couldn't bring myself to let it go? It's a K framed Combat Masterpiece:

S&W 360Sc (12.5 oz) 357 magnum Kit Gun, with 3' barrel, HiViz Front sight and fully adjustable rear sight. I have replaced these sorry Houges with Pachmyr Decelerator Grips, and with full house 357 magnum loads it can be a little rough to shoot. I would like the S&W 317 to go with it, but not for $600 or more.

WyoStillhunt, very nice. I've read where Castner's Cutthroats(Alaskan Scouts) were issued Colt Woodsmans during WWII as a sidearm and had great success with them? But then again, why wouldn't they, they were all backwoodsman, hunters, and trappers. Again, very nice  and practical kit gun.

I haven't even SEEN a S&W Kit Gun for sale locally in the last twenty years, so I got two clones.

A Charter Dual Cylinder 4"  Pathfinder, and a Taurus 5" .22Mag Model 941.
