Anyone know what range I can expect out of the Swivel?   The Nevada Desert is my backdrop , but Im very curious.

Depends on what you use as a projectile.  A golf ball probably won't go more than a few hundred yards.  A lead one pound sinker could go 600 yards.  Also depends on how much powder you use.

I'm not sure about the recoil system barrel on a pre 1899 cone mount.  They did have the Hotchkiss revolving cannon on the naval cone mount though.

Something you might add is a foot that contacts the ground to lessen the forces on everything else.

I like it but you need to install a safety harness and a little floor on it so you don't louse your tail gunner ;D

Great job! Gives a person a couple of ideas! Removable legs on the tripod, right? Easy to store and carry that way, and the mount on the trailor hitch can be transfered to any standard trailor hitch mount. I like it! An enterprising person could make a few for friends, have a "Tail Gate Party" BoomLover

HEHEHEHEHE.  Yes Legs are removable & the whole thing is pretty light (For man packing that thing up a hill).  The legs have tack welds to keep the legs from moving too far up the center piece.   ;)

 Your mounts are really nifty. I like 'em. However, to be honest, I think they may be a little lightly constructed for use with your barrel and a lead ball. I'd be a little more concerned about recoil than range at this point.

 I see you have a lanyard lock on your bbl. If you're gonna be yanking that while holding onto the tiller with the other hand with a lead ball loaded, you're a braver man than I. You might look into adding a more substantial grip.

 I'd start with a golf ball and ~100 grains of FG, then heavier charges until you get a feel for what it does before trying a heavier ball. Another member here has found a source for steel balls to fit a golf ball bore. I'd try those before lead (Personally, I would never even try lead on either of your mounts unless I fixed the bbl so it couldn't swivel, and fired them with a fuse or long lanyard).

 I'd add some kind of a vent sheild if I were holding the tiller when it goes off. Have a look at a few pictures of what comes out of the vent on a cannon that large.

 The above is JMHO. I'm not one to poop on anyone's party, but I want all of us to stay safe.

I have a Napoleon of 1-7/8 bore.  The fellow I bought it from fired it with a lead sphere over a mile - MEASURED.  Not a clue as to charge, safe or not.

Well Both Ranges I usually shoot at will not allow me to fire my Cannon on their range   >:(  ......Im off to the desert in the coming weeks.
