Cross bolt die lock ring
« on: January 16, 2009, 02:53:00 PM »
I am undecided whether to get the Hornady Lock N Load classic kit for the reason to change dies and not having to re adjust the dies or go with the Rock Chucker supreme master kit.

Has anybody used the die lock rings with the cross bolt?
Does the setting remain the same when dies are removed if the lock ring is not disturbed?

As far as my limited experience with them, yes.  I bought a few rings and put them on some of my existing dies.  I don't know why I went to the trouble though.   :-\  I'm such a darn worry wort I don't trust them to not have moved and readjust them anyway...  ::)

The cross-bolt style lock rings from Hornady and Forster lock in place very securely. Lyman also makes a cross bolt lock ring, but does not include it with their dies. RCBS used to have cross-bolt lock rings, but switched to set screws quite a few years ago. They look very similar to Forster cross-bolt rings, but have allen head clamp screws instead of phillips head as on the Forster. I find them every once in a while at gun shows for cheap.
