300 win mag. ? UPDATE
« on: January 17, 2009, 10:35:08 AM »
I've got the opportunity to buy a two year old Mod. 700 300 win. mag. with bipod scope and some ammo.
I don't know the specific model (I haven't laid eyes on it yet). It's only had about 25 rounds through it.
A buddy of mine looked at it and thought it looked to be in mint condition, I just hate the chance to pass it up and I don't really have an immediate need for it -- but you never know.

Am I fool or not to jump on it.

Thanks
Steamin

After talking to the guy on the phone I found out the rifle is not a Mod. 700, but a 710. for the price I think that the guy is a little pricey $350.00 and it's been passed around some.

Thanks

Is this some sort of distress sale and the price is right?

Here's a picture of my 700 in 300 WM.  I've used it on deer and caribou but it's mostly just my elk rifle.  It's the LSS version.  I don't particularly like it.  It's been in the shop 3 or 4 times in the 10 years or so I've owned it.  It's reasonably accurate and the recoil is no real issue because it's relatively heavy.

In short, if you are going to be elk hunting I'd buy it.  If it's an incredible deal you could buy it and resell it or trade it at some point.  Otherwise, I might look elsewhere.

Jump on it and purchase that Rem 710, price is right, and the rifle is a shooter. It is a awesome rifle in disguise of a economy rifle, not too heavy, comes with a bright and clear scope, all weather capability, and a good shooter to boot, buy it, load your own rounds and have fun, it is a flat shooting long range killer, i know , I have one...JimP.

Since you asked, I would never buy a Remington 710/770. Without wanting to offend those who already own them, suffice it to say there are many things about them I don't like!

However, Remington 700s are a whole different story as they are quality rifles I'd gladly own. There's simply no comparison between the quality of the 710/770s and 700.

700s rule...710/770s rule out.

Again on offense, I'm just sharing my opinion.

I believe you can get a new 710 for about that. I'd say pass, run don't walk away.

I had a .300 Win mag once. It was a way too light weight M700 Mtn. Rifle and it kicked me silly. I bought two boxes of ammo for it 150s and 180s. I shot one group with each I think and decided I did not need a .300 magnum. I traded it even across for another just like it in .270 Win. and sure was glad to be rid of it.
