Hello,
I think my family qualifies as micro experts. Awesome little guns. We have a .257, .243, 7-08, and the kids will soon have 2 in .308. They are tack drivers and have all the features we like...tine safety, removable clip, great trigger, and no ugly, noisy plastic stocks. One thing to consider though. This is a negative in my book. Micro Hunters (all A-bolts) cannot be opened on safe. IMO that is just plain dumb. We're used to it, but to explain to a youngster,"O.K. put it on fire and unload." Dumb! However...Browning is changing this with the X-bolt. They introduced them last year and are now slowly but surely changing over all the A-bolts to the new look. There is a button on the bolt which allows the operator to open on safe. This is what my kids will recieve. Another $150 extra buys a new X-bolt. I'm sure you've trained your boy properly to always have it pointed in the right direction and then the safety issue doesn't matter. Just be forewarned. Also...don't be afraid to buy a stout caliber. The rifle is designed well and the recoil is not bad in 7-08 and .308. If the recoil is a bit much at first use the Remington reduced recoil rounds. We have had great success with those on deer.
God Bless!
