Gas check or not for .357 lever gun?

I have a new .357 lever gun & a ruger blackhawk....need some new molds.  Will buy 158 & 180 grains with flat point.  Should I buy the gas check versions?  Probably wouldn't matter for the pistol but, with the higher velocity of the rifle do I need the gas checks?  Will be using wheel weights &  cold water dump them & just get the cheapo Lee sizer/gas check seater.  Thanks for any opinions. Okie2 I would use gas checks on the lever gun if shooting hi velocity in the pistol I have shot lots of gas check design with out the gas checks on them at low to mid. Velocity D Crockett

if you plan on shooting it a rifle velocitys yes.

sounds like you want to do what I am doing. I would definatly recomend the use of a gas check if you don't want to have leading problems

Gas checks are expensive and hard to install right, but I have never felt that a gas check bullet design performed poorly when used without the check. I would get the mold for the gas check and use it either way.

I agree, But I don't think gas checks are to pricey to use anyway, I use them on all my hot loads.

my  mold from  LBT  is  180 wfn  4 cavity

3 plain and one gas checked

i  mostly use  the non checked

but have  them  if  i ever get around to using  the checks

but  then  i am  a cheap scape

Rule of thumb is around 1400 or over use a gas check.  If your shooting 1000 in your pistol that load will get 1400 in your rifle.

I use a good lube and gas checks if at all possible.  Only my light light loads are without the check.
If you are going to spend the money, get the 180 gain mold and a box of gas checks.  The right 180 grain mold will provide excellent bullets for both the rifle and the revolver.  Veral's 200gr WFN bullet is what I use in my 357.  Also shoot a lot of the RBBS 180Sil.
