« on: January 19, 2009, 09:54:45 AM »
UPS just delivered my Recalled LCP. They received it Dec.9,2008. It has new hammer mechanism and an improved Mag.release and slide hold open button,Extended mag. and a Ruger LCP cap. This was my second recall. The first one fixed the jamming problem. Will have to test fire soon. Horsefeathers.

So much for that "famous" Ruger dependability folks used to brag about. Ruger sure is trying to end that reputation.

And so much for getting it back within 2 weeks like they say. They have one of my two right now. When it gets back I'll send the other.

I sent mine back on December 26th.  The lady at Ruger said there was a one week turnaround.  It's not back yet and looks like I have some time to wait until it does.  My Kahr 380 is in route--maybe it will be a more reliable gun!

Mine went in around the same time, still don't have it.  Planed to give them till end of the week before calling the hotline.  I miss the little guy, carring a cz 75 now it is rough in comparison.

I have recently been considering buying an LCP...am I being foolish? Did any of you guys compare with the .380 Kel Tec before purchase?

I have no experience with the 3AT. Based on my experience with the Keltec .32 ACP I decided to go with the Ruger in .380. My LCP has functioned flawlessly, its just that Ruger has been a little slow to return it from recall. I determined via the UPS tracking number they received it January 7th, and it's not back as of today, not big deal----yet. If I had it to do over, I'd still buy the Ruger. In fact, in a way I did, as I now own two LCP's.

My LCP is lost in the Recall Black Hole.

It's taken me about three months (so far) to replace my brand new Mark III pistol that had a severe gouge across the feed ramp.  All they had to do was get the old one and ship a new one to my FFL (they complained about having the pay the FFL fee).  Everytime I call to check on it, I talk to a Technician or Customer Service Rep that has to start from scratch to find out the status, can't find managers who know the info, etc.

So, I hope I'll just get any of my guns back from Ruger.

I would prefer to get my money back and buy KelTec and Browning.

I have spoken with the manager of Customer Service (name witheld), who doesn't take the problem seriously.  He told me that less than 1% of Ruger firearms are ever returned for repair.  "Ruger's just fine, thank you!"

Maybe he forgot about the recalls.

Buy KelTec.  I bought one for my wife and it functions flawlessly.  I bought the LCP for myself, because I have always loved Rugers.  My mistake.

Mine was back in 8 days. Put a Crimson Trace laser on it. Fits good in one of my old phone holsters. Mine has been trouble free since I got it in August. I enjoy it, easy to carry and very good accuracy. Put the laser on a brick at 15  yards and it's shattered.........

Well, the plot thickens. Got a postcard today from Ruger saying there is a delay in the delivery of a "key part" needed for the LCP recall, and to now expect 4-5 weeks from the date they received it. Here's what I don't understand, I register with Ruger when I find out about the recall, they e-mail and say we will let you know when we are ready for your gun to be returned, (this was early November) late December they notify me they are ready to repair it. I send it, and now they are not ready. Not too good, I'd say. At least they sent me a card ::)

Mine came back today as well.  I sent in on 12/26.  Ruger also sent a nice hat with a LCP logo and an apology letter of why it took so long to get it back!  Oh, they also included a new magazine as promised.

Maybe Ruger could work on a little consistency.

I'd settle for just getting either of my two guns back, never mind caps, magazines and letters.

I got a card in a couple days age saying a part needed is back ordered and will delay shipments and repairs 4-5 weeks.  I think mine is in the mail, ups tried to deliver Friday but no one was home.  Now the roads are bad so not sure when they will try again.

Well, I wrote yesterday that I got a postcard notifying of a 4-5 week delay due to an unavailable part, and today I received my LCP back! The free magazine arrived with the standard flat base along with a note that they would send the finger extension base plate when they become available. As I have another LCP to send back I called to have the shipping label sent and I mentioned to the woman I spoke with about the postcard and then receiving my LCP the next day. She said they decided to go ahead and send the gun back without the 'special' base on the magazine rather than making customers wait on the entire gun for additional weeks. Good move, however I'm beginning to think the right hand doesn't know what the left hand is doing at Ruger.

Sidekick, I think you're right.  I have spoken with a number of folks there, from the manager of Customer Service, to service reps, through technicians.  None of them ever seem to say the same thing twice.  The main reason I have gotten so angry at Ruger is that they can't seem to tell me the facts, and no one has ever followed up on anything they have offered to do.  I don't mind the wait as much as I mind the making of excuses by everyone I've talked to.

Congratulations to those who've lucked into a good tech, or service rep.  There are good individuals at Ruger, but there seems to be no system whatsoever to ensure consistent product or service quality.

I think I've said my piece about Ruger.  I won't criticize them further, because we need every gunmaker we have to survive.  Whenever I get my guns back, I'll put my opinions aside and enjoy the guns.  It's too bad that Ruger used to be one of my favorite gunmakers, and I was proud to brag about a Vaquero or two.  I might have to think it over before I buy another Ruger.

Enough said on the issue for me.

Got mine back, glad to have it back but was a little disappointed with the work.  There are marks in the plastic like it was clapped in something and slipped or some other tool marks.  It is not horrible and really not that noticeable but I know they were not there before and know they are there now.  I knew I was taking a chance on it when I bought it being a new to the market firearm.  I don't have plans on getting rid of it, as it serves a wonderful purpose.  I will by more rugers, I am sure of it ( Obama allowing, of course).  The customer service was ok, I never called in but they accually called me to make sure I got my box to send it in.

I received the card saying that it would be several weeks until they would return it on Monday and today I got it back. I love the new hat. It is very nice. I sent mine in January 3rd.

I really like my LCP and prefer the Ruger name and service, maybe it is not what it once was but it is still better than most other products.

I have the SR9 and love it.  It HAD the old trigger group and had to be sent back for recall.  It took awhile to actually get the package to send it back in but you know what...I didn't care.  I loved the gun and it wasn't a safety concern for me.  The problem was that if carried loaded, without the safety on and dropped from a certain height, at just the right angle, it could discharge.  Alot of ifs if you ask me.  I always carry mine loaded with the thumb safety on like my 1911.  In my opinion Ruger is doing more than they have by issuing the recall, "just to be on the safe side".  I couldn't be happier with my SR9 and have been looking at the LCP.  I won't let the recall sway me either way.  Oh yeah, I sent my SR9 off on Wednesday and got it back the following Tuesday.  Less than 7 days.  Maybe I'm one of the lucky ones.  Either way I appreciate Ruger's integrity throughout my situation for what it's worth.

My understanding is that in order to get some of these new products to market in a timely manner, Ruger is outsourcing some of the parts. They are made here in the US, but outside the plant, and Ruger therefore has a little less control over them. More than likely, Customer Service is telling customers what the vendors supplying the parts are telling them. I would guess that is far more likely the problem than CS sending customers mixed messages on purpose. To be efficient, companies these days can't maintain the huge inventories that some did in years past. To keep everything in this country they have to do everything they can to be as efficient, and cost effective as possible. It's hard to be patient, but remember that they are keeping folks working, and keeping the guy down the road working too......... not some guy in another country.

I have recently been considering buying an LCP...am I being foolish? Did any of you guys compare with the .380 Kel Tec before purchase?

I am a big Ruger fan, but I went with the Kal-Tec over the LCP. I am so glad I did, I have not had one problem with the Kal-Tec. My buddy bought one also and it works great.

Kal-Tec had this gun out for quit some time before Ruger decided to copy it, and add a few extras. The problem is, Kal-Tec got it right and Ruger didn't Any time someone asks my opinion of the two I simply tell them, go with one that is proven (Kal-Tec) or get one that has recalls and problems. I went with the NAA Guardian 380.  I have had only one issue with it, and that was the chamber needed a little polishing.  They did the work for free and sent it back.

Its a little heavier but still conceals well for Sunday mornings.  ;)

As everyone has been sending in and waiting on their Rugers I have been toting my Kel-Tec everyday.  No problems at all.  I am a Ruger fan, but had my Kel-Tec before the the LCP came out.  I decided to not go rush out and buy one because Ruger put their name on it.  I figured, I would stay with what was working.

Well it is nice to see I am not alone. I was having a feeding problem when I saw the recall. I sent it in after talking to the hot line. I included a note about the feeding issue. I got it back in a week. I took it out to shoot. First magazine was fine but then the feeding issue started. I was not sure what I wanted to do with it so I finally called Ruger back. The lady I talked to looked it up to see what was done. She said they must have missed the note about the feeding problem so she sent me a shipping label in an email and I sent it just the other day. I hope it gets fixed this time. My friend bought one the same time I did and his has had no issues at all. In the mean time I found a great deal on a Kahr mk9 and carry that. It shoots great and carrys well.

Sent my LCP in and got it back in less than a week.

Sent mine back on Monday and got it back on Friday!  Can't complain about a five day turnaround when most of it was due to shipping.

Fortunately I have been stocking up for several months on everything.  Can't find 22, 380, 9mm, 45, 223, 308, primers, etc.  Thank god I have 10,000 primers already.  I don't expect to ever see the 40,000 I have ordered.
