41 Magnum query
« on: January 19, 2009, 05:12:25 PM »
Getting ready to reload for my 14" TC in the 41 mag. I have some of the 210 Gr. JHP`S and some hardcast 270 Gr. FP, as whitetail`s ,hog`s and black bear will be on the agenda! Just wanted to know if anyone out there has any experience using the 270 Gr. cast bullet in a 14" TC for hunting.

I bought  41 mag ammo in the late 1990's from CorBon that had 265gr cast performance meplat hard cast heat treated bullets with a velocity of 1300 fps+ it was very accurate fired in my Ruger Blackhawk 4 5/8" barreled revolver with a really stout recoil that hurt but I had a 50% tear in my right bicep & a torn rotator cuff when I fired the corbon ammo.Cast Performance makes hard cast 41 mag bullets in 250gr with & without gas checks,255gr  & 265gr with gas checks !

kiddekop,
Thanks for the reply! These270 grain FP hardcast are from Leadhead Bullets. I think for my 14" TC I will load up a few around and have them "screaming " at around 1050 -1150 fps!  ;D

I think I read somewhere that Paco Kelly used this 270 grain on some wild bulls with pretty good results although he was pushing them faster than 1150 fps in his 41 mag revolver!

In the 14''TC I think the 270 Gr. at 1150 fps should be o.k. for hogs in East Texas.

Hope the rotator cuff healed o.k. for you.

Thanks I went to a physical therapist I had been to for other LE initiated self defense injuries. I attended 3 days a week for 5 months and it was successful.I found out this was where firemen, school officials ,doctors, judges, lawyers, police, sheriffs, sports teams, etc went for treatment in Redlands,CA .  What powder are you planning to load with? For my 45lc & 454casull I've been using W296 & H110 and got good performance.  www.gmdr.com has some light  oregon trail cowboy load data  using handgun & shotgun powders with  215gr SWCbb lead bullets ie, hs7,blue dot, unique,h2400,h110,w296 up to 1600+fps.I bought a lot of lead bullets from cast performance for my 41mag ruger bh with 4 5/8" barrel ( ca banned lead bullets in the condor zone).I gave the 41mag with reloading dies, 2 boxes of 210gr jacketed bullets , lead bullets, pmc brass,a couple of boxes of loaded ammo & a new box of rem 41mag brass to the son of a friend of ours.
