Realistic expectations on a Pro Hunter
« on: January 20, 2009, 08:05:43 AM »
This will be my first pro hunter and I plan on purchasing a 7mm-08 barrel set to go along with the current 223 Rem set. What kind of accuracy can I expect from this platform. Thanks in advance

If you're handloading, you should be able to get 100 yard 3 shot groups of less than 1 inch; likely in the 0.5 to 0.75 inch range.

My buddy and I shot our encores last week end. His 25-06 prohunter shot about a 1.5 inch six shot group but three were touching in the bulls eye and the other three were touching about an inch to the right. He was using reloads and I didn't see if he repositioned the rest or not between shots.   My early model 7mm08 with a 24" heavy custom shop barrel  shoots 1.5 inches or less with factory ammo. I haven't shot it enough with reloads to see what its real potential is.

my prohunter in .30-06 did 1.5" with factory ammo and, the gun can do better, but the shooter is limiting the gun I'm sure of that.

Similar story here with my Pro Hunter in .243. When shooting 5 shot groups at 100 yards, I get about 1.5" groups with factory ammo, sub-MOA with reloads.  Best group so far 0.41".

I'm very pleased with mine.  I just worked up a load for my 22-250 and I'm getting groups under .5 at 100 yards.  My son's 243 barrel is shooting .5 - .6 groups with reloads.
