New .22-250, got some ???s
« on: January 20, 2009, 11:50:22 AM »
So I picked up a new 26"SS heavy bbl .22-250 on Saturday. I just got the scope mounted and picked two boxes of 55gr jhp just to get sighted in and shoot a bit.  What is the twist rate on this bbl 1:12"?  It is the Thompson factory bbl.

I am planning to reload for the bbl and I have done some basic hand loading for my .30-06, but I would like to do it right this time.
Are there any special things to remember about loading for the Encore?
How do I measure for head space?
What about seating depth?
How do I measure how far the lands are?
I think that a 60 gr bullet is the heaviest that will stabilize in the 1:12", does that sound right?
I am planning on using varget, and some Nosler BT's, but I may try some Barnes varmint grenades too.

Any thought on this would be helpful.  Thanks again.
