.22 LR barrel to .22 Hornet question
« on: January 20, 2009, 03:16:32 PM »
I do not know anything about this or if it can be done. My friend Paul called me tonight and asked if a .22 Long Rifle Bull barrel for the Contender could be re chambered to the .22 Hornet. He would like to know if it can be done and if it is a practical idea.

I told him I didn't know but I knew where to ask. Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you in advance.

The 22LR is generally a .222 diameter bore, where as a 22 hornets was traditionally .223 and now is .224. You would have to slug your bore and go from those measurements. But 22 lr to 22 centerfire is generally a no. Now 22 WMR is .224 and can be done as long as the barrel is up to snuff metallurgically and diameter wise.
99% of all Lawyers give the other 1% a bad name. What I find hilarious about this is they are such an arrogant bunch, that they all think they are in the 1%.

I've got a 22lr rechambered to 22 k-hornet.  I've put probably 1000 rounds thru it with no problems.  Never slugged the barrel, but would guess it to be the smaller diameter.

I also have a .22 LR barrel rechambered to .22 K-hornet done about 30 yrs. ago.
No problem with shooting, barrel is very accurate.  The .224 pilot on the reamer had to be reduced until it fit the smaller barrel.

When I called T/C about the bore diameter of their rimfire barrels I was told they use a standard .224 bore.
