7.62X39 primers
« on: January 21, 2009, 11:54:50 AM »
I was just doing a little on line shopping for primers
for my SKS and found CCI offers #200 lrg rifle primers
but also offers #34- 7.62 NATO Spec primers.
What is the difference and is that what I need to buy?
Thanks,
Mike

You need to go with the primers your data calls for.  The NATO spec primers require a harder blow than commercial primers.

Remington brass uses small rifle primers, others use large.  Or it could be the other way around.  Be careful.

NATO spec primers are for M-1s, garands, AKs, and SKSs among others. If your useing them in a bolt gun or sporting rifles use regular primer. The NATO spec stuff is to help prevent slamfires in autoloaders. 8)

So you are saying buy the NATO's since they will be used in a SKS?
Dang it >:( they cost more
and I doubt my one and only gun shop will have them.
Would I be safe with regular primers in a SKS or not even go there ???

Go with the CCI's , you'll be fine , as the others have said the only diffrence is that the NATO Spec will have a toughter cup .

most places sell the nato primers cheaper then comercial. They work great in aks sks and ars but in a mini 30 stick with the softer ones.
