There are some here who feel that the team lost fairly and they should accept their defeat, which they have done graciously I may add. Yet the same people still whine about their party losing the election. What hypocrisy.

There are some here who believe that they should get more than what is righfully theirs, we call them liberals.
99% of all Lawyers give the other 1% a bad name. What I find hilarious about this is they are such an arrogant bunch, that they all think they are in the 1%.

No one thinks that they should be given anything.
No one on the losing side has complained---ABOUT ANYTHING, tha I am aware of.
The winners were embarassed.
The winners are the ones who apologized.

This has nothing too do with the losers. NOTHING.

Are you really so dense you do not understand. I mean really.

I am done on this one.

In 1993 the Huston Oilers had the Buffalo Bills down 35 to 3 in the third quarter. The Oilers decided to just quit playing and kill the clock. The Buffalo Bills went to the Super Bowl and the Oilers went home. I bet they would like to do that over and just keep playing like a team that was taught to win. Or continue to play to their abilities.
It is true the losing team is not the 10th mountain division but some day they may be and the bad taste of losing in a game may make them winners in life.
There are many stories of men and women and that have been stomped, that got up, dusted off their back side and went on to win in life.
The losers did not lose in life but they got a taste of losing. The winners did not win in life but they got a taste of not losing. Those that will put forth an effort from both sides will be winners in life. Right now the girls that trained know what it is like to be ready and prepared. The girls that did not, know they should have.
No matter how many points you spot the losers. No matter how many games you give them. No matter how much you apologize nothing will teach them like the hard knocks of life and that starts at a young age on every playing field they will step on be it academic or athletic.
Heather the next time you ask your kids to wash the dishes. Spot them 20 dishes because you are bigger than them and over bearing.

william, if there had been no losers, this would not have been a story.

And if the Winners would have just kept their pie holes shut and took their win in stride, there also would be no story.

Why do you think they need too think as you do?
They made the apology. It was their decision!
As it turns out---the rest of the story---the coach kept up a full court press and was in desire of a 100 too 0 win. Why? Pride.
He got fired---but he DID get his hearts desire.
Which is what he wanted??

Much has been said about this situation. Both sides have given good argument about right and wrong. I have considered the opposing view and realize there is middle ground. My hope is the teams from both sides will grow from this.
The coach.... That is another subject.  :o

Here's my take.

1. The Athletic Directors and/or Coaches should suffer disciplinary action for setting up this idiocy.

2. When you play, you play the best you possibly can, all the time.  Period.  As long as the winning team rotated all of it's players in they can't be faulted for playing as good as they possibly could.  As long as they were not taunting the losing team I have no problem with this. Imagine you were running the mile against an Olympian and he lapped you, then sat down and waited for you to catch up, then ran backwards and still beat you.  It is more humiliating to have someone "take it easy" than to play you with less than their best.

Let me ask you all a question.  Would you be content with a team playing less than their best during practice? Then why would you be OK with them playing less than their best during a game.  THE MATCH NEVER SHOULD HAVE HAPPENED, but since it did EVERYONE should play their best.
This that I do, I do by my own free will.

And to that I [almost] agree...as I understand the intent.

I don't know for fact, but believe they continued to play their 1st string starters throughout the whole game for the sole purpose of running up the score.  That's poor sportsmenship on the part of the Coach.

High School players do as the Coach instructs - or they don't play.  An individual player with the fortitude of spirit and sportsmenship to withdraw from such a one-sided "victory" would have been a rare individual.

The girls that won owed no apology..they should play their best and did.

Their coach had the responsibility to play his bench sitters or water girls anything to dampen the score. He owes everyone involved an apology.

The girls that lost played their best...they own no one an apology, if they played their best. By having the heart and will to continue to compete against all odds...we owe them our respect.

The coach, if he had recognized what he permitted to happen was wrong, should not be fired..we all have made mistakes.

However, he did not and has shown that he has a total lack of understanding of the word "SPORTSMANSHIP" and that athletics is supposed to have a much more important purpose than to just have the highest score....therefore he should have been fired.

School is a place for learning.. that includes moral and life lessons that tend to make us a better person.

Just my opinion.

To me the obvious solution to this would have been an exhibition game, entertainment only. We've all seen exhibition boxing matches, where obvious skills are displayed, but nobody goes for a knockout. They could have had a real fun game, why didn't they??? No big winners, everybody scores, everybody happy. Good therapy for both teams. POWDERMAN.  ??? ??? ??? ??? ??? ???

i would suggest that the league needs divisions based on skill level/experience. then strong teams play each other. and the weaker teams play at their level

I agree that there should be more thought put into divisions.
Church schools vary in size and amount of finances.
In our area--Houston--as I understand it, those who want to participate can/do band together to creat teams to compete.
I am not aware how this works or if it is successful, it is a nother way however.

Folks, I am a High School Girls Basketball coach.  If the winning team was trying to hit 3's and running a press, then they should be ashamed of themselves.  If in fact they fell back to a zone defense and ran a stall offense, then they should be proud of themselves.  The simple reality is that this story got so big that someone had to take the fall for the bad press.  It was the coach.

I believe if one looks at the scoring of each quarter, the winning team was steadily BACKING off of the other team.
I think the first quarter they scored about 35 points, and in the last quarter score ONLY 12 POINTS. Apparently the other team sucked big time, but were in the same district, so considered equal as far as potential.
But in the end, the most amazing thing I see is argument, and sarcasm here among the members, TOWARD EACH OTHER, and none of which were at the game, or knew anyone at the game.
In the end, I will once again say: It was a GAME FOR KIDS. Who the hell cares anyway? ::)
