Problems with Hornady LnL Ap Powder Measure & Seating Die
« on: January 23, 2009, 02:35:19 PM »
Hi Guys, I need help with my LnL AP Powder Measure. I am Loading 7-30 waters Using H-335 Powder. Every load is weighing different. My Target weight is 27 gns....I set the Knob to where I weigh 2 or 3 loads at 27. Then I run one Case through and the weight comes up as 27.8....I do another and it will weigh 28.4.....I do another an it will weigh 27.2. This doesn't make sense to me. I tried switching the powder bushing and it works the same. Let me add that this is a brand new press that i set up a few weeks ago. What am I doing wrong? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks....Steve

Powder measures do not like static electricity. Could you have some? a wash in warm soapy water will get rid of it. Maybe a bit more moisture in the air in that area would help as well...

Tough to diagnose across the web, that the first thing that came to mind...

Make sure you thoroughly degrease the PM, per the instructions. It is shipped covered in oil, and you have to get that out.

Then run a pound or two of powder through it (with the metering screw backed out past where you'll use it) to "dry lube" it before trying to set it to throw a specific weight.

If you're having problems with static electricity, wipe it down inside and out with a clothes dryer fabric softener sheet.

What kind of bullets are you using? Hornady makes custom seater plugs for their a-max bullets. Find them under die accessories on their website.

I'm using Hornady v MAX BTip and Hornady spire Point. It Doesn't matter which bullet.....I thought you just needed to place the bullet on top of the neck without having to have it perfectly aligned.  Steve

Sounds like you're using the wrong seater plug. The plug for the spire pt should work with both bullets.
