Just thinking of starting fishing again I haven't done any in 30 years. I use to always use a spin cast reel now all I see are people using a spinning reel open faced. Is their an advantage to the spinning reel over the spin cast?? Also if the spinning reel is better how hard is it to cast with and do you get alot of back lashes?? Also what is the best make and model reel??

What Reel Is The Best?????????????????????

i don't know a whole bit about the advantages.  BUT, i do know that i don't change the line on my spinning rods as much as my spincast.
However, with my spincast i can be a hell of a lot more acurate casting!!!
About the different companies, the best thing to do if you want to make a purchase go to a fishing shop with a decent selection and ask them if you can just try them out.
Look for the smoothness in reeling, the balance of the reel(does it pull to one side or not), how much line it can hold and what the weights are.
Basically, if you are looking to fish for a certain species, buy what you think would be best. OR if you are looking for something just to mess around with to see if you really want to get back into it, buy a nice medium action that will hold all smaller fish and most big.

also, when buying a spinning, look at how many ball bearings it has.  Although you just want to try it, it is important. Well, to me anyway.
I can't afford to buy the reels with seven bearing so i usually go with three or four and they work great.
you'll realize the difference when you're fishing believe it or not!!!

Open face reels...

Open face reels is the way to go now a days.  They are easier to use, more balanced, less tangles and after some pratice with them, they can very accurate.   Make sure you buy the right rod to fit the reel you buy  for longer casts.  A combo would be a nice option.

Make sure you buy a reel that has as many ball bearings as you can afford and buy one that comes with a extra spool, or buy a extra spool.  In this way you can buy a med. reel/rod and have the option of using different weight lines for fishing, I use a 8 lb test for jigging with small curly tail jigs and a 15 lb test for deep runners or trolling.   All you have to do it pop out one spool and change it for another for different weight lines for different typies of fishing.   I find that buying a good quailty line is worth it's weight in gold, less tangles, less brakes.   If you are fishing in  green fresh water make sure you buy a green color line, the fish can't see that line.  Me I use Berley's Trilene Big Game line 15 lb. test for trolling.

Pratice makes prefect, trying praticing in your back yard using a rubber sinker until you get the hang of using a open face reel and rod.

don't discount new level winds either

If you haven't fished in 30 years there have been huge changes in reels especially level winds.  Now there are magnetic brakes and balanced level wind reels that cast as easily as a open face spinning rod but don't twist the line. The magnetic brakes almost eliminate backlash and all the other old problems. And accuracy is as good as the spin cast reels.  A lot of the Alaskan king salmon anglers have gone to level winds. Like the post above says - buy one with the most ball bearings and best overall quality you can afford.  I'm so sick of twisted lines form my open faced reels, I'm transitioning to level winds after watching how well other folks do with them.  Ambassadeure, is a top pick and similar reels from Shimano, Diawa etc.  The really good ones aren't cheap but they are worth it.
