Timney trigger in Howa/Hogue?
« on: January 24, 2009, 01:13:19 PM »
Anybody put a Timney three position safety in the Howa 1500 with the Hogue overmolded stock?  My question is basicaly, does this installation take any modification or is it a simple drop in?
Gotta git'me a bigger ice box

Dunno about the Hogue stock, but my factory wood stock had to be relieved a little with a dremel tool to clear.

I replaced the factory trigger from my howa 1500 SS 30-06 with a Timney.
I fiddled a lot with the factory trigger first but could not get the creep out for good. Every now and then I felt it. Learned from a gunsmith that parts inside these factory triggers are put together with large tolerances.
The Timney is a huge improvement. Sturdy affair, no creep, fully adjustable and totally reliable.
My stock is a Bell and Carlson Medalist. If I wanted to use the third safety position I would have had to take out some stock material, but I didn't bother.

I put a Timney in my Wal-Mart Weatherby, synthetic stock.  Had to do a little whittling on the stock.  I have a Hogue Overmold waiting in the wings for that gun.  Just haven't gotten around to making the swap.  I anticipate it needing a little fitting as well.
Cordially,
