Sportster 17 HMR Range Report
« on: January 24, 2009, 02:59:20 PM »
I just put a Mueller APV scope and a set of medium Burris Signature Zee
rings on my 17 HMR Sportster. I went to the range today to give it a try.
It was shooting right around 1.5" groups at 100 yards at first. There was
hardly even a breeze this morning and it was overcast. I messed around
with the torque of the forend screw and the groups improved somewhat. I
ended up around 1" at 100 yards. At 50 yards I was shooting almost
1 ragged hole about 3/8" in dia. I'm going to do a little more work on
it and try a couple of tricks from the FAQ's. I bet I can get it even better.
I shot around 100 rounds of Hornady 17 gr Varmint Express through the
Sportster today. I like that Ammo! The Mueller APV was great! Very clear
glass. The Burris Signature Zee rings were rock solid as usual. When I
get this bad boy dialed in it is going to blast some jackrabbits and
some crows too.

GOOD JOB!!

Glad she is becoming a shooter for you!!!

I was very lucky with both of my 17's. They worked great right out of the box!!  Now my 22... that required some tweaking!! The addition of a Sims laboratory barrel resonator sure tightened up groups for me!! If you still done get where you want to be, maybe give one of them a try!!

Thanks CW.
I've seen a few guys at the range with those funny looking doughnuts
on their rifles. I talked to a few of the guys and they said the same
thing you did, that they really worked great.
