NLD,
MP's? Are you kidding? The MP's that I know really hate their job. Most of the time that you aren't deployed you spend on the gate, riding around in cars for 12 hours a day, dealing with jerks with attitudes and spending 14-15 hours on duty. PT in the morning, then report, then guard mount, THEN 12 hours, then clean and return weapons. I wouldn't be an MP if they gave me a promotion tomorrow.
Air Force - hmmm, I resemble that remark. 21. 5 years and still counting. Yep we have higher test scores to get in. Smart folks in other services, yep. I've been joint service for 17 years, my last three assignements have been on Army posts. My first assignement was on a Navy base. I've worked for and with folks from all services. All have their smart folks and there "snuffies". Doesn't change the fact that the score requirements to enter the AF is higher than the other services. Yep, we get AC and fixed facilities most of the time. Look at the placement and function of the bases. Air bases aren't mobile and aren't designed to be. Once we open and air field, we intend to stay for a while. If we were infantry, artillery, combat engineers, Marines etc, then we would probably be moving to another position in the not to distant future so we wouldn't have time or money to establish semi-permanent facilities. The AF has a different mission and skill set than other services.
Y'all have fun,
ngh
