I know I can shoot 38 specials in my 357 revolver
but is that also a safe practice in a Contender?
I'm thinking bad idea because of the jump.

So how many 10's of thousands of 38's do you plan to shoot in your 357 Mike?   LOL

I know over the years I've shot thousands of 38 wadcutters in several of my 357's and never saw any problems.   Same with 44 SPL in 44 MAG revolvers.
Evolution at work. Over two million years ago the genus Homo had small cranial capacity and thick skin to protect them from their environment. One species has evolved into obese cranial fatheads with thin skin in comparison that whines about anything and everything as their shield against their environment. Meus

I've done the same with my max and I believe the only problem is with the carbon ring that builds up at the end of the 38 case, without a thorough scrubbing after many rounds, you will end up with a constriction that will make loading and extracting difficult for the longer rounds.
