Does any one know if ductile cast iron would be any good for making a mould for casting zinc?

I'd do it.  That doesn't mean that it'll work, but that's the idea behind ductile iron.

Any old cast iron should make an adequate mould for zinc unless there is a problem with the zinc wetting the iron, which probably could be prevented by smoking the cavity.
