CW, how much length of pull does it add?  That's a real factor here with heavy winter clothing and the stock catching up under your arm when you're shooting game.  It may be perfect with a youth stock.

Thanks,

Pete

I just put a leather Pachmayr "slip-on"  recoil pad on my Shikari.  I shot 20 rounds today and all I can say is WHAT A DIFFERENCE!!!!!!!"  The rifle was "easy" to shoot, I found the "fit" better, and the recoil was cut maybe by 1/3 to maybe 1/2 over the same round without the pad.  I LOVE the pad.

Pete,
That is a grind to fit pad. So as long as you have a saw and a tape measure, you could make it what ever legnth you want!!  ::) ::) ::)

"but you will find it of limited practical use."  "And it is still 150 yard rifle at best."

Yes, it shoots a big rainbow, but all you have to do is learn it.  Anyone can point a flat shooting rifle and hit a target at 300 yards.  It takes a marksman to do it with a .45-70 sighted in for 100.

Suggested reading for the "100 Yard Rifle" believers is Paul A. Mathews book "Forty Years with the .45-70" ISBN:0-935632-84-0.

+1 Pete :)

Please tell that to the deer in my freezer that I knocked over while trotting at 220 yards.

Pete,

Now you know darn well you just scared that deer to death by the mere sound of the muzzle blast of the 45-70. Plus the fact that you did a rapid fire 4 shots in a row. That deer's heart just exploded right there. No blood trail to follow.

Now....just fess up.
