Big Brother's New Target: Tracking Firearms

Friday, January 23, 2009

U.S. Representative Bobby Rush (D-Ill.) recently sponsored H.R. 45, also known as "Blair Holt's Firearm Licensing and Record of Sale Act."  The bill is, at its core and as its name implies, a licensing and registration scheme.

The measure calls for all handgun owners to submit to the federal government an application that shall include, among many other things:  a photo; an address; a thumbprint; a completed, written firearm safety test; private mental health records; and a fee.  And those are only some of the requirements to be licensed!

The bill would further require the attorney general to establish a database of every handgun sale, transfer, and owner's address in America.  Moreover, the bill would make it illegal to own or possess a "qualifying firearm" -- defined as "any handgun; or any semiautomatic firearm that can accept any detachable ammunition feeding device…" [emphasis added] without one of the proposed licenses.

Additionally, the bill would make it illegal to transfer ownership of a "qualifying firearm" to anyone who is not a licensed gun dealer or collector (with very few exceptions), and would require "qualifying firearm" owners to report all transfers to the attorney general's database. It would also be illegal for a licensed gun owner to fail to record a gun loss or theft within 72 hours, or fail to report a change of address within 60 days.  Further, if a minor obtains a firearm and injures someone with it, the owner of the firearm may face a multiple-year jail sentence.

H.R. 45 is essentially a reintroduction of H.R. 2666, which Rush introduced in 2007.  H.R. 2666 contained much of the same language as H.R. 45, and was co-sponsored by several well-known anti-gun legislators--including Barack Obama's chief of staff, Rahm Emanuel.  H.R. 45 currently has no co-sponsors.

Rest assured that NRA-ILA will continue to monitor this bill closely, and will keep you informed of any developments if they materialize.

The Democrats have to know where your guns are when they come to get them.

Wrong.  Gun owners have everything to fear from Obama and most of the rest of Dumbycrats and even some Rino's.

The NRA had better be gearing up and gun owners had better understand that we are about to be under seige.  The Second Amendment is about to be ignored, distorted, forgotten, dismissed, disparaged, perverted, pillaged and assaulted.  The rest of the Constitution and our freedoms and liberties are also in deep jeopardy.

There are over 80 million gun owners in this country; we should take a lesson from the libs and march on Washington D.C.

I believe they will not come for your guns, but make ammo amd components an obsolete thing.  Check Midway's primer selection. no back ordering on most types. :o

If they can you better betcha they will enact registration legislation. They've been trying for years as it is a necessary first step prior to confiscation. They need to know who has what first. With the dumocraps in complete control and too many Republicans not really caring and also in the pockets of the big money interests I fully expect it to pass within the next two years.

It happened in Canada and some willingly registered their guns but many perhaps most have not. If it passes and all willingly go along history shows us clearly that the next step they take is to come for the guns. History also shows us clearly what happens next after that.

And don't forget, the former Senator from Illinois is a big fan of the Illinois FOID system. (Firearms Owner Identification).
One reason I moved from Illinois over 20 years ago.

Just wait and see what is coming. "Assult weapons" first, followed by handguns, and then ammo and componets are going to have such a high tax, the rest of the gun owners will not be able to shoot what is left.

Well America, or should I say the little over half of the dummies that vote for Obama. You got what you wanted. Socialism at it's best.

It is my belief that in 6 months most people in America will be very upset with Obama and his administration. They will realize just what they have done to the US.

However, it might just be too late!

That is if he persues the socialist left positions and desires.

I really hope so, I am tired of the comprmising with the liberal scum. Liberal scum always wants to have compromise and bipartisinship. Any compromise with the liberal scum is a compromise of our freedom. I can see none what so ever in redeeming qualities or decent morality in the liberal scum. They have absolutly no morals or scruples, they will lie they will cheat they will steal to get their way. How can anyone that is for calling the murder of a baby a choice be trusted in any way.
99% of all Lawyers give the other 1% a bad name. What I find hilarious about this is they are such an arrogant bunch, that they all think they are in the 1%.
