Help? Where to buy implements for 2 1/4 bore.
« on: January 26, 2009, 04:00:44 AM »
I recently purchased a two thirds scale six pounder from Hern Ironworks. I'm very pleased to come across this forum since I will be a beginning artilleryman.
I have been unable to locate a source for my 2 1/4 bore swab, ramrod, worm etc.
Can someone help.

Thank you,

Russell

Hi Russel,
Try contacting Dom Carpenter for your implements: http://www.blackpowder-cannons.com/
He is one of the sponsors here and he does amazing work.

Welcome to the forum, Russel! I ended up making my own implements for my 2.25 bore. It really isn't too hard, lots of fun, and a good learning experience. Check out the "how to" sections, and read up. That will help, plus, you'll get lots of ideas and help from these guys. Great bunch of guys! BoomLover

Hey Russell... For the sponges I ended up using some of that dark grey foam stuff that is made for insulating pipes.  Just glued a section of it over a 1" dowel and then covered it with an old sock.  Cheap to make and worked out well.

I thought Hern sold a few implements . Other than that I'd talk to Dom .

Hi again, Russell...just a short addition to your questions about your 2.25 bore...have heard that pooltable balls are a pretty good fit for projectiles, same with 2 lb "cannon ball" fishing weights. Be safe but have fun shooting! BoomLover

These are my "implements" for both my Hern 2.25" guns

The worm head is sold by Dixie Gun Works, and the swabs are home made using wooden dowels and synthetic sheep's wool. If you want to know how to make them, I will dig up a link to the details.
