Called a segmented wood turning.Made of Teak pieces that are end glued with epoxy. They are then epoxied and stacked atop each other
and put into a press, I had to make to fit size. After they are put on the lathe. A piece this large flexes on the lathe and is scary. So I took the wheels from inline skates and made a jig to hold in place. Largest bowl I did so far.

I haven't done much lathe work.
I only have a small one and to be honest it is a little intimidating.
Have watched on TV but have concerns about the angles for holding the tools.
Also have read that the wood should be green.
If so, how do you get the finish to stick if it is green?

Longtom, I don't have a lathe, but if you go to this site, Sawmill Creek-Powered by vBulletin They have a turning forum that will help with your question's. I understand the wood has to be dry. I think they use green wood when you are making a bowel by hand. I hope this helps. Carl L.

Turning wood can be green or dry. Usually to make big one piece turnings the wood won't be dry though. Then you can partially turn it to shape and bag it in a paper bag for however long it takes the moisture level to drop enough.

Two thing I will warn any new turner about.... WEAR a face mask and wear some sort of respirator!

Very good advice!
That's why my eyes are no longer able to see open sights that well or read small print.
Years of no eye protection when I was young and used a cutting torch and a grinder on a construction job.
Left eye has been worked on 3 times and the right 4 times for metal and grind stone debris!

MY FAULT!!!!
Young and DUMB!
