« on: January 27, 2009, 09:32:30 AM »
Anyone got a good load for the 7-08 and cast bullets, just trying to save some of the error in trial & error
Ive got the following powders; Unique, 2400, RL 7, 4759, 5744, looking for 1500 to 1700 FPS loads

Try between 17 and 19 gr of the 5744 in 1/2 gr increments.  A friend of mine use 18.5 gr in his M700 7-08 with a 1/2 gr dacron filler. I use 20 gr of 5744 with the same 1/2 gr dacron filler in my M95 7x57 under the older 168 RCBS cast bullet.

The dacron will compress to nearly nothing; but will a granulated buffer make it through the neck?  Not saying it won't, just hadn't heard of folks using it in a necked cartridge before.  Is it so light and fluffy that it won't be a plug?  If so, I'd like to try it.

Cat,
The stuff I used in the past would, used it in a 7-R [30-30 necked to 7 MM] and a 7 TCU , just going to take a lot more for the 7-08

Thanks, I'll start looking for some when I'm in the big gun shops.
