Stock attachment bolt

OK, I am in the process of building myself a custom 12G USHL. I am making my own stock and forearm and wondering how some people are bolting the stock to the frame. I want the bolt in the thumb hole. Is there a stud style that can be used or do I use a short bolt and make a cover plug to hide the bolt head. The Boyds thumbhole stock is very close to mine.
