That was great. Love those beagles. Rabbit hunting has been my passion since i got my first beagle almost 50 years ago. I had seven beagles at one time. I am now down to two. Due to health reasons i don't hunt anymore. Keep those pictures comming. Sure does bring back great memories.

Hey Madcatter, just curious. How are you cooking your cottontails? I usually cook mine in the crock pot for about 15 hours and serve with vegetables as a stew. I could always use new recipes from fellow rabbit hunters.  :)

Great shot.
That's the greatest sound. A beagle doing his stuff. I've always hunted cottontails with my beagles.
Now my son's have beagles and we all get out all that we can. And the grand kids are having a blast.

mohawk
lately i have been crock potting them for about 4 hours then letting them cool.next day  i then take meat off bones and smash up and mix with bar-b que sauce for sandwiches or i put meat into sausage gravy then freeze in bags.if i do not plan on cooking them within a day i won't shoot any,if i put them whole in the freezer i know they will get tossed so its better to just let them live.
i got sick of fried rabbit this year lol

That actually sounds really good. Never thought about making BBQ sandwiches out of them. I too am tired of fried rabbit, I could never get the gamey taste out of them in the frying pan, no matter how slow I cooked them. Thats why the crock pot works well. It takes all the gamey taste of of it and makes great stew meat.

Are you boiling the rabbit on top of the stove?

Wow!  You sir, are a crack shot!   Those beagles almost brought tears to my eyes, taking me back to days on the farm following Bob (my childhood Beagle).  I second the BBQ idea, that works wonders on lots of game, cook it low and slow it just falls apart.
